Simple Handflower
The construction of a simple handflower (sometimes called a hand drape or hand lace) consists of two
basic components. The first is a tight-fitting bracelet, usually no more than three links wide made up of
small light links. It is common practice to make the bracelet out of aluminum. This gives the piece a
delicate feel to it. The second, and more complicated section of a handflower is the drape. In my
example, the drape is made of blue beads on beading thread which wraps around the fore and ringfingers
on the back of the hand. Of course nearly and chain you can think of can be used in nearly any pattern
around the hand. It should be noted, however, that (in general) the more complicated you design
becomes, the less mobility the hand that wears it will have.
