Swordmage Tiernan

• Swordmage Tiernan is a master swordsman and a hand-to-hand specialist, as well as an accomplished Jedi Knight.  His instruction at the Jedi Academy on Dantooine supplements the lightsaber training given by Master Kam Solusar.
• Born on Genesia in Brak Sector, Tiernan was disillusioned with the life his parents had bred him into.  They were employees of LMC (Lant Mining Corporation), the mining company that conducts 95% of the mining related business in Brak Sector.  As a son of LMC employees, Tiernan had little to look forward to but to become an employee as well, except he had a gift that set him apart.  His natural affinity for melee weapons was discovered when he was nine years old.
• He accepted a full scholarship to the Imperial Academy on Corulag for his swordsmanship.  Gaining the benefit of an education as he competed on Corulag Academy's fencing team gave him a new hope; he would never have to go back to Genesia and subject himself to the doldrums of being an LMC employee.  His parents gave him all they could, but he couldn't stomach the notion of living as they had lived.
• In addition to the general studies required of him at the academy, Tiernan improved on his already formidable abilities. 
• Tiernan's skill brought him fame and promise of wealth, as well as the title "Swordmage," but then the Empire lost a vital battle at Endor.  Moving from academy life into the Imperial Army seemed natural to Tiernan.  His field of study gave him an inclination for ground combat and he received his lieutenant's commission, commanding a squadron of repulsortanks known as the "Flaming Cyclones."
• It was shortly before Grand Admiral Thrawn made his bid for Imperial domination that Tiernan realized the Empire was dying.  Just as he saw no future in staying on Genesia years before, he believed staying with the Empire would not be in his best interests.  
• His final action with the "Flaming Cyclones" proved to be the final action for the unit as well.  They were attached to a large ground division aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Carnage that was part of a blockade to Genesia.  A high degree of Rebel activity had been reported in Tiernan's hometown and surrounding region, and the taskforce (which included Carnage and two Victory-class Star Destroyers) and it's support elements had been moved in to extinguish the rebel uprising.
• Tiernan's heart ached when he learned of the role his unit would play in the assault.  Base Delta Zero had been the order for his hometown (Base Delta Zero is a "scorched earth" order involving total destruction of standing buildings and death to everything in the perimeter of the affected area).  The rebel presence there had grown to include so many residents (roughly 80% of the citizens were believed to be sympathizers to the Rebellion) that extraction of people loyal to the New Order was not considered to be realistic.
• As his unit was ordered forth with their mission parameters, Tiernan did the only thing he felt he could.  Taking part in the destruction of the place he grew up, the murder of family and friends, was not an option for him.  Tiernan's only problem would be in making a difference before he was destroyed.  His vehicle was only a LAV Chariot repulsortank, but he was fortunate enough to have confusion on his side when he began shooting at Imperial troops and vehicles.  With satisfaction, he was able to destroy four of the seven other tanks of his unit before his LAV was disabled.
• Barely escaping with his life, Tiernan learned that his parents had not lived through the horrible situation.  They had not been on shift at the time of the scheduled assault, and the LMC facility was just about the only place in the region that had not been affected by the Base Delta Zero order.  Tiernan's whole life had been destroyed completely, and the Empire would answer for it. 
• Wandering the galaxy for roughly two years, Tiernan had no direction, he simply traveled the galaxy.  Since he was certain the Imperial Army believed he was killed on Genesia, he journeyed the spacelanes with impunity.  Skilled in blades as he was, he found himself in a position to be able to help people quite often.  It was during such a situation that he encountered a young Jedi named Ezekial Andr'syn.
• Andr'syn was engaged in a knife fight with a Barabel and had already received several nasty cuts from his foe.  Had Tiernan not stepped in, the Barabel would have certainly used Andr'syn's entrails for sausage that winter.  The Jedi sensed not only Tiernan's helpful nature, but Force sensitivity.  Uniting Andr'syn with his Jedi Master, Hawran Riciao, Tiernan made his decision to accept the invitation to go with them to the Jedi Academy within seconds of it being offered.  He trained not only in the ways of the Jedi, but in three alien martial arts styles.  He still uses his "Swordmage" title as he feels it was a true achievement of growth, not an achievement of pride.
• Tiernan is average in height and weight, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds.  He has black hair and has a ruddy complexion.  His eyes are a burning emerald hue, and he wears a stoic expression on his face 95% of the time.

• Tiernan utilizes several lightsabers when training Jedi in the art of swordplay.  He has one double-bladed lightsaber and two regular lightsabers (one with variable length blade).  Damage with every lightsaber is 50 plus his Control rank.  
• Tiernan wears simple clothing:  gray tunic, brown trousers, black boots and belt.  He has several cloaks, but favors a black one.
• Tiernan has several swords of archaic design.  Depending on design, swords range in damage from STR+5 to STR+25.
• Tiernan has an assortment of vibroblades (damage is STR+30), vibroshivs (damage is STR+15), and vibroswords (damage is STR+35).
• In addition to the various swords he has at his disposal, Tiernan is proficient with other weapons and has a variety of "defensive" tools that he keeps for special training opportunities
