POINT DEBT: The concept of point debt first came in to being when some people were playing movie and novel characters (hereafter refered to as major characters) when the points system was introduced. Those characters had to be as powerful as they are in the pre-established, available Star Wars books and movies, so players with major characters started with a point debt.
Participants can still use major characters as their own, though I reserve the right to refuse them the privilege.

For example: "Participant A" wishes to start out on the BZ with Wedge Antilles. Wedge, on the BZ, is roughly a 665-750 point character (estimated from his stats in the Dark Empire Sourcebook from West End Games). I would encourage "Participant A" to spend his 325 points against that huge number, then write up an updated profile of Wedge for more points. In the end, "Participant A" would still owe roughly 350-400 points for the use of Wedge Antilles as a character.

There is another use for Point Debt, and that is to establish a point debt right from the start. If you have an idea for a character but the 325 start-up points just won't cut it, let me know and we can make some arrangements.

For example: "Participant B" wishes to start the game with a powerful Dark Jedi, but realizes that 325 points isn't enough to start with the powerful Dark Jedi he was hoping for. "Participant B" writes to me and asks how their goals can be accomplished. I write back offering them a point debt of "X" amount. They write back and tell me this is acceptable, then proceed to the join up form!

Sometimes the points a participant earns are not enough to cover the advancements desired. If this is the case, you may go ahead and request the advancements you wish to make, and if I approve it, you can push your character into "point debt." This is, of course, with one understanding; you may not go into debt more than what you expect to earn in points for the current month. The exception to this is that a player can offer to write a story for the character, or some other point earning task.

For example: "Character X" receives 15 points for a month of good RPing. He chooses to boost 7 skills by one rank level (costing 14 points), and then wishes to learn four new skills (costing 8 points, because he found a teacher for the skills) and he wants to gain the Force attribute Control (costing 20 points) at the rank of 10 (costing another 10 points). This character would then be asking to go into a point debt of 37 points. That is 22 points above what I would consider the "expected earned points for the month." The player for "Character X" proposes to archive a current battle (which usually pays off with 25-40 points, depending on how well it is archived, and how much extra editing I must do when I format the archive). I would then approve the point debt.

If, at the end of the month, you are still in point debt, you may not push your character further into point debt by requesting further debt. The exception to this is with the major characters and other characters with large debt. Some of these characters started with excessive point debt (some as high as 2500 points!). Every 125 points a major character "pays off," the player can elect to push that character back in debt by up to 30 points. This is so that the character may still advance in skill before they pay off their debt.

I have a spreadsheet prepared listing each character, under the respective player's name, with columns for total amount of points they have earned, the total points spent, the amount of points awarded on "X" date, and a column for point debt.  This spreadsheet is current and accurate from the summer of '98, so any information before that is lost.  If any player requests this information for any reason (regarding only their character), I would be more than happy to provide this information.
