Battle Zone Technology: Imperial Capital Ships
CLASS A CAPITAL SHIP SCALE
- Adz-class Patrol Destroyer: The Adz patrol Destroyer is primarily used
by the Empire for deep-space border patrol missions of three to six months.
Imperial regulations allow the officer and crew a prize share of captured
smugglers and enemy ships, creating a tremendous incentive for attention
to duty. This 150 meter long ship requires a crew of 36 (includes 12 gunners),
but with a Command skill of 45 can operate with a skeleton crew of 6. It
carries 8 troops and has brig space for 4 "guests." It has a hyperdrive
rating of 2, a maneuverability rating of 60/75, and can travel at 1000 kmh in atmosphere. The weapons complement
consists of 3 turret mounted quad laser cannon batteries (damage is 250 each),
and 3 turret mounted ion cannon batteries (damage is 200 each). The hull and
shield strength ratings are 165 and 150, respectively. Cost is 150 points.
- Ajax-class Escort Destroyer: The Ajax-class Escort Destroyer was primarily designed to provide protection against missile and torpedo attacks for larger vessels and convoys. It is fast and maneuverable. At 91 meters in length, it looks like a flattened cylinder with a short automatic pistol grip that holds the three stacked engines. It flies at 850 km/h in most planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 40/40, and has a hyperdrive rating of 1. It has good acceleration and maneuverability. It requires a crew of 156 to operate (includes gunners). It carries 18 troopers who provide internal security. It has 3 turret mounted heavy turbolasers (damage rating of 250 each), 2 turret mounted quad laser cannon (damage is 200 each), one in front of the bridge, the other beneath the engine string, 8 laser cannon (damage is 160 each) specially calibrated for missile and torpedo defense, and a turret mounted Phalanx repeating turbolaser (damage is 120). Absent an override, firing is controlled by the Imperial Firestorm system, capable of detecting, tracking, prioritizing and targeting up to 200 simultaneous threats. The Phalanx repeating turbolaser rotates firing among 16 barrels (the barrels don't move, just the power) in overlapping cycles so that a near continuous stream of laser fire can be spewed at a target, providing the opportunity to adjust aim until the target is eliminated. Its low nominal damage rating is quite adequate to detonate a missile or torpedo, and the continuous stream is the equivalent of a myriad of shots seriatim so this weapon can actually be used can-opener style on heavier targets like starfighters and gunships. Still, it is specially calibrated for missiles and torpedoes. The hull and shield strength ratings are 180 and 140, respectively. Cost is 230. (design by Admiral
Kanaris)
- Carrier Wing Transport: This heavily shielded military grade transport is 90 meters long and has retractable delta shaped wings for emergency braking and increased atmospheric maneuverability. It requires a crew of 11 to operate (includes 6 gunners and 3 loadmasters). It carries 630 troops, and has a drive-on/drive off cargo hold that spans the ship with front and rear (under the engines) ramp hatches that has a 90,000 metric ton cargo capacity for vehicles and other equipment. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 50/60, and can travel at 950 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 2 turret mounted turbolaser cannons (damage is 250 each) and 4 repeating blaster cannon (damage is 170 each). Civilized ingress and egress is via a side door on the left. The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 170, respectively. Cost is 150 points. (design by Admiral
Kanaris)
- Imperial Customs Frigate: Built by Rendili StarDrive, this is the standard Imperial customs frigate. While slower and less durable than the customs corvette, it hits harder and requires a smaller crew. It is 35 meters in length, and requires a crew of 12 (includes 6 gunners). It can accommodate 10 passengers. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 30/50, and can travel at 850 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 6 turret-mounted heavy laser cannon (damage is
270 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 165 and 150, respectively. Cost is 170 points (10 points at start-up).
- Galleon: The 289 meter long Galleon is an elderly unarmed military grade transport used by the Empire to ferry troops and equipment. It requires a crew of 50 to operate. It can carry 1,300 troops, and has drive on/drive off cargo hold with 60,800 square meter capacity - enough parking for
60 tanks or 20 AT-AT's, and 75 miscellaneous light military vehicles. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 55/70, and can travel at 750 km/h in atmosphere. The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 50, respectively. Cost is 150 points.
- Imperial Gunship: The Imperial Gunship requires a crew of 44 (includes gunners). It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 45/55, and can travel in atmosphere at 1,000 km/h. The weapons complement consists of 8 double turbolaser cannons (damage is 230 each), 6 quad laser cannons (damage is 250 each), and 4 concussion missile tubes (damage is 450 per missile). The hull and shield strength ratings are 215 and 110, respectively. Cost is 230 points.
- Law-class Light Patrol Craft: Built by Kuat Drive Yards, this 51 meter long craft is one of the smallest patrol ships in the Imperial service. It has gained little acceptance in its intended role of scouting, but continues to serve as a system customs and patrol craft in several sectors. It requires a crew of 15, but with a command skill of 45 can operate with a skeleton crew of 4. It has a brig able to accommodate 20 passengers. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 40/55, and can travel at 850 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 4 laser cannons, of which 2 are front-mounted and 2 are turret-mounted (damage is 250 each), and 1 front-aimed proton torpedo tube (damage is 450). The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 50, respectively. Cost is 150 points.
- Light Corvette: The Rendili StarDrive Imperial Light Corvette is a fast, nimble, durable little craft with good weapons and shielding. It was designed to counter the reckless tendencies of smugglers and does a good job of it. It is 180 meters long. It requires a crew of 58 (includes 6 gunners), but with a command skill of 45 can operate with a skeleton crew of 18. It carries 20 troops. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 30/30, and can travel at 1,050 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 6 turret-mounted double turbolaser cannons (damage is 200). The hull and shield strength ratings are 265 and 150, respectively. Cost is 180 points.
- Minos-class Mine Countermeasures Ship: The Minos-class Mine Countermeasures Ship, built by Kuat Drive Yards, has a state-of-the art mine detection and nullification suite. This 68 meter long specialized duty escort is used to reduce enemy mine fields, retrieve friendly mines, and reprogram existing minefields. It can also be used for mine-laying, but that would be overkill. It looks like a puffer fish, with the command deck on top of the mouth. It requires a highly trained crew of 86 (includes 8 gunners), and has 50 MC-23 space-going, mine-deactivation specialist droids. It has a hyperdrive rating of 2, is not atmosphere capable. There is an upgraded, specially calibrated short-range sensor suite designed to detect, track and evaluate emissions from even the most heavily conventionally masked or minimal signature mines. The weapons complement consists of 2 turret mounted quad laser cannon batteries (damage is 250 each), a turret long-range laser cannon (damage is 250) for primitive mine detonations, a tractor beam (beam strength is 150), and the mine nullification suite. The suite is an integrated sensor/communications/upgraded computer package designed to radiate wavelengths and emissions that may fool mines into believing they should commence and continue firing (until energy storage cells are drained) or detonate. It can also feed targeting data into the long-range laser cannon and the quad laser cannon batteries (but it is preferable not to be inside conventional quad-laser cannon firing range since that means a mine could be shooting back). More importantly, with mines designed to accept code-verified additional programming, if this ship can have 50 to 100 hours of uninterrupted, non-combat time with a minefield for sensor probing and response analysis, it has a decent chance of being able to decipher the skeleton code key for the mine field, in which case it can deactivate the mines or reprogram them to switch sides. Specialist droids, typically beneath the minimum acceptable target criteria of most mines, can also be dispatched to specific mines to deactivate or deconstruct them, but you can loose a lot of expensive droids that way. This ship has a heavily shielded interior compartment that can be used to store up to 200 conventional mines, which can be brought in by the tractor beam, using magnetic harpoons, by having droids attach thrusters, or through a slow speed sweep pickup into the scoop-like capture bay, which is beneath the command compartment. Standard operating procedure prohibits retrieval of enemy mines until their power plants are entirely drained and all explosives physically removed.
It has a hyperdrive rating of 2, a maneuverability rating of 70, and cannot
enter planetary atmosphere. The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 200, respectively. Cost is 150 points. (design by Admiral
Kanaris)
- Corellian Mynock-class Assault Boat: This box-like ship was designed to land troops under fire-fight conditions. It is 44 meters long and requires a crew 3 (includes 1 gunner). It carries 24 troops. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 30/45, and can travel at 1,050 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 1 turret mounted quad laser cannon (damage is 250), 4 turret mounted concussion missile tubes (damage is 450 each), 2 fire-linked medium ion cannons (damage is 200), and 2 chin guns (damage is 100). The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 150, respectively. Cost is 150 points.
- Patrol Frigate: The Imperial Patrol Frigate is an escort frigate modified to be a deep-space probe, often equipped with a 3,000 meter long sensor net with dedicated energy receptors, crystal gravfield traps and hyperspace signal interceptors. These are often used to watch borders and gain advance warning of invasions. It has half the usual crew of a frigate, about one-third of its decks mothballed , and the rear laser cannon replaced with tow winches. The towed array is operated by a crew of 3 from a gondola trailing behind the ship, and speed is severely restricted when an array is unfurled. Arrays must be furled or abandoned to enter hyperspace. They can detect ships entering and exiting hyperspace, and even pick up massive ships passing through local hyperspace. Vectors are calculated and passed on to base. The sensor net can also intercept hyperspace transmissions, including HoloNet communications, but decoding complex messages is typically handled by Imperial Intelligence Signal Branch. This 300 meter long ship requires a crew of 514 (includes 56 gunners). It can carry 40 passengers. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 40/60, and can travel at 800 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 9 turbolaser batteries (damage is 200 each), 7 laser cannon (damage is 100 each), 3 ion cannon (damage is 200 each), 3 ion cannon (damage is150 each), and 2 tractor beam projectors (beam thrust is 200 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 165 and 100, respectively. Cost is 200 points.
- PB-950 Patrol Boat: The Corellian PB-950 is an older stock patrol boat, no longer in production, that is 37 meters in length. There are still tens of thousands of them in Imperial Customs forces and system defense forces throughout the Empire. The PB-950 requires a crew of 4 (includes 2 gunners). It can accommodate 8 passengers. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 30/50, and can travel at 1,050 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 1 turret-mounted quad laser cannon (damage is 250), 2 front-aiming, fire-linked medium ion cannons (damage is 200 when fire-linked), and 1 turret-mounted concussion missile tube (damage is 450). The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 150, respectively. Cost is 180 points.
- Shuttle-class II-S10 ("Stealthy Shuttle"): Manufactured by Seinar Fleet Systems' Black Projects division, the ultra-top-secret Shuttle-class II-S100, known in rarefied intelligence circles as the Imperial Intelligence ("II") "Stealthy Shuttle," makes extensive use of composite fabrication materials, a heavily engineered fractionated hull exterior, and a broad array of extremely advanced secret Imperial passive and active systems to minimize its sensor profile and substantially reduce the odds of its detection. The engines are mounted in the front of the ship, and their exhaust runs through a series of baffles for the length of the ship before it leaves the hull, eliminating the wave and heat signature. This shuttle is typically assigned the task of penetrating heavily defended enemy systems and planets to drop-off and pick-up Imperial Intelligence teams and equipment. However, it also has a nose-end boarding ring (opens through an airlock chamber to the passenger compartment) with magnetic and explosive grapples for ship-to-ship action. The ship rams a target, the ring self-seals to the target's hull, and allows the boarding party to rapidly enter the target. Boarding ring damage is 360 but the range is only four meters. The crew compartment includes the communications desk and is sealed off from the passenger/cargo compartment by heavy armor, an armored airlock and internal shielding to prevent counter-attackers during boarding operations from seizing control of the shuttle. The rear-facing hatch in the passenger/cargo compartment can be opened while the ship is in-flight to permit troops or equipment with appropriate protection to drop down on their own. The II-S100 has exceptionally good electronic countermeasures and weapons jamming to minimize the odds of its detection and destruction (deduct 60 from the gunnery skill utilized by any ship targeting an II-S100 unless weapons are being fired on manual using visual targeting, in which case adjust gunnery appropriately), the same extended range sensor capability normally reserved for fleet pickets, an upgraded computer to quickly identify the destination of target vessel hyperspace jumps, and excellent communications facilities including full encryption ability, a HoloNet transceiver, and extensive communications jamming abilities able to cut-off even a small capital ship. This ship contains ultra-secret Imperial technology, and a pilot-compartment activated, ship-wide self-destruct mechanism. There is a separate limited field self-destruct mechanism for the communications/countermeasures desk (in case the pilot doesn't have the guts to blow himself to kingdom come, he can melt the commo gear and operator) and a third mechanism that can be used (repeatable) to vaporize the contents of the passenger/cargo compartment. The pilot can monitor the passenger/cargo compartment with video cameras, so boarding by hostile intruders is not recommended. The ship is still operable after the second and third limited area destructive devices have been used. The II-S100 is operated by a crew of 8 consisting of 2 pilots, 1 operator for the communications and electronic countermeasures desk, and 4 gunners. It flies at 950 km/h in planetary atmospheres,
a maneuverability rating of 40/65, and has a hyperdrive rating of 1. The passenger/cargo compartment can carry 30 fully equipped troops, or 20 troops and one medium/light vehicle or broke-down aircraft, or 10 troops and two vehicles/aircraft, or 1 really heavy piece of equipment and its crew. The II-S100 has two quad laser cannons (damage is 250 each), double blaster cannons (damage is 190 each) and two repeating blaster cannons (damage is 170 each), all in retractable turrets. The turret for a particular weapon must be in the up position for it to fire, and that reduces the stealthiness of the craft such that incoming gunnery suffers only a loss of 45 from the gunnery skill rather than the normal 60. If the ship's surface is materially damaged, the base gunnery skill deduction will be 40 rather than 60. The hull strength rating is 200 and the shield strength rating is 140. Cost is 250. This craft is only available for Imperial Intelligence associated characters. It cannot be purchased at startup and can only be obtained when assigned by the Ubiqtorate or a top level Imperial Intelligence officer. That is typically done on a mission specific/qualified agent only basis since capture of an II-S100 by Rebel Alliance personnel would almost certainly require extraordinary measures by the Empire to destroy the shuttle before it can be analyzed. In the same vein, any surviving Imperial officer foolish enough to risk capture of a valuable II-S100 by engaging in open space combat can expect to be severely disciplined. (design by Admiral
Kanaris)
- SFS Light Patrol Ship: Built by Sienar Fleet Systems, this short range patrol ship is 38 meters in length and more common Coreward than Rimward. It requires a crew of 6 (includes 3 gunners). It can accommodate 8 passengers in its brig. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 25/50, and can travel at 1,050 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 2 front-arc twin laser cannons (damage is 165 per pair), and 3 turret-mounted laser cannon (damage is 250 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 210 and 100, respectively. Cost is 170 points.
- Skipray Blastboat: Purely considered a capital ship due to the output of the weapons, this is yet another masterful design by Sienar Fleet Systems. The blastboat is very fast, and very maneuverable in planetary atmosphere, but maneuverability suffers in the vacuum of space. It relies on speed and surprise to make devastating first attacks. It requires a crew of 2 (1 can coordinate) plus 2 gunners, but with a Command skill of 45 can function with a skeleton crew of 1. They fly at 1200 km/h in most planetary atmospheres,
have a maneuverability rating of 35/25, and have a hyperspace rating of 2. For weaponry, it carries three medium ion cannons (damage rating of 200 when fire-linked, 150 when fired separately, two laser cannons (fired separately and may not be linked, damage rating of 200), one proton torpedo launcher (damage rating of 360), and one concussion missile launcher (damage rating of 240). The Skipray Blastboat has a hull strength rating of 125 and a shield strength rating of 200. Cost is 185 points.
- Star Galleon: The 300 meter long Imperial Star Galleon is an armed military grade transport used by the Empire to ferry troops and equipment. The interior is designed to impede boarding, and includes reinforced weapons emplacements in corridors, force fields and heavy blast doors. It requires a crew of 150 (includes 20 gunners). It can carry 300 troops, and has a cargo hold with 100,000 metric ton cargo capacity located in the center of the ship. The cargo hold has a small hyperdrive, and can be jettisoned and sent off on a pre-programmed course. The Star Galleon has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 50/75, and can travel at 750 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 10 turbolasers (damage is 200 each) and 4 concussion missile tubes (damage is 250 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 265 and 100, respectively. Cost is 200 points.
- System Patrol Craft: It is blatantly obvious that Sienar Fleet Systems is one of the largest ship manufacturers in the galaxy. The IR-3F was designed for to fit an inter-system patrol/customs mission profile. It has a crew of 11 (8 are gunners) and has room for 10 passengers (customs inspection officer and troops). It flies at 1,000 km/h in most planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 30/30, and is not hyperspace capable. It has four turbolaser cannons in turrets (cannons require two to operate) that do 200 damage each. The hull strength rating is 150 and the shield strength rating is 135. Cost is 170 points.
- Incom Y-4 Transport: This boxy military grade troop transport was somewhat unpopular with the Imperial Navy due to Incom's "Rebel" connections until Warlord Zsinj needed it to ferry his Raptors, so it is politely known as the "Raptor Transport." It is suitable for commando style operations, and has retractable wings for emergency braking and increased atmospheric maneuverability. It requires a crew of 3 (includes 2 gunners). It carries 40 troops and has cargo space for 4 AT-ST's and smaller ground assault vehicles and speeders. Egress is through 3 drop bridge panels on each side. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 45/75, and can travel at 950 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 2 turret mounted double laser cannons (damage is 150 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 265 and 150, respectively. Cost is 130 points.
