Battle Zone Technology: Imperial Capital Ships
CLASS D CAPITAL SHIP SCALE
- Super Star Destroyer: In the years before the battle of Endor this ship was intended to be the pride and glory of the Imperial Fleets. The first of several planned SSD's, the Executor, was a gift from Emperor Palpatine to Lord Darth Vader, and that ship was destroyed when it crashed into the second Death Star. These ships carry two full wings of various TIE squadrons, as well as smaller support vessels. It carries a full division of Stormtroopers as well as other soldiers, 25 AT-AT walkers, 50 AT-ST's, and various other ground assault vehicles. The SSD also carries three prefabricated garrison bases for immediate deployment. 280,734 men are required to operate an SSD efficiently (1,590 are gunners), though a command of 80 can ensure that 50,000 men can coordinate themselves well enough to operate it. The SSD carries 38,000 troops for deployment on worlds and to act in boarding parties. These ships can not enter a planet's atmosphere and hope to escape it under any conditions. They have a hyperdrive rating of
2 and a maneuverability rating of 75. They have 250 turbolaser batteries (damage is 350 each), 250 heavy turbolaser batteries (damage is 500 each), 250 concussion missile tubes (damage is 450 each), and 40 tractor beam emplacements (tractor strength is 450 each). The hull strength rating is 500 and the shield strength rating is 400. Cost is 550 points. A character must be Imperial to purchase one of these.
- Torpedo Sphere: The Torpedo Sphere - forerunner to the Death Star -- is a dedicated siege platform designed to knock out planetary shields. It is a 1,900 meter diameter spheroid covered with dedicated energy receptors that analyze shield emissions to find weak points. There are 500 proton torpedo tubes (damage is 450 each against planetary shields, but only 200 against other targets as they are specially calibrated to affect planetary shields) arranged in an inverted conical formation surrounded by 10 heavy turbolaser batteries (damage is 450 each). Although sensors cannot penetrate full planetary shields, the crew studies the power waves within the shield to estimate where the planet-bound shield generators are located. A massive salvo of torpedoes is launched at a small weak point area usually six meters square. This creates a hole for a few brief microseconds (if the emission analysis was successful) through which the turbolasers can target the shield generators. If the process is less than perfect, it must be repeated in its entirety. It requires a crew of 62,275 (includes 2,030 gunners), but with a "Command" skill of 75 can function with a skeleton crew of 20,415. It carries 8,540 troops. It has a hyperdrive rating of
3, a maneuverability rating of 125, and is not atmosphere capable. The hull strength rating is
650, and the shield strength rating is 220. Cost is 550 points. A character must be Imperial
and have Domino's express permission to purchase one of these.
