Battle Zone Technology: Rebel Capital Ships
CLASS B CAPITAL SHIP SCALE
- Rebel Assault Frigate: Originally, the Rebel Alliance took Rendili StarDrive's Dreadnought and stripped it down to create the Assault Frigate. This ship was more agile and required fewer men to crew the ship. This worked well to begin with, but ultimately Alliance Procurement wanted an actual design that they could have built in their own shipyards. The Rebel Assault Frigate is 700 meters long, has two stabilizing fins (one dorsal mounted, the other ventral), and simply looks like a much larger, much more intimidating version of the Nebulon-B. The Assault Frigate requires 4,882 people to operate efficiently, though with a command skill of 60 can operate with a skeleton crew of 1500. 100 troops serve on board in the event of a boarding situation. The Assault Frigate cannot enter planetary atmosphere and hope to escape it. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2 and a maneuverability rating of 45. For offensive capabilities, the Assault Frigate has 15 laser cannons (damage is 120 each), 20 quad laser cannons (damage is 200 each) and 15 turbolaser batteries (damage is 350). The hull strength rating is 250 and the shield strength rating is 150. Cost is 370 points.
- Belarus-class Medium Cruiser: This Rebel Alliance medium line cruiser was designed for rapid, cost effective construction using prefabricated modules (though unlike the Imperial Strike-class Cruiser it cannot be easily reconfigured). It is 400 meters long and looks like a squished motor cycle with the command deck where the banana seat goes. It requires a crew of 1,878 (includes 125 gunners), but with a Command skill of 45 can operate with a skeleton crew of 782. It carries 410 troops. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 55, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 15 turbolaser cannons (damage is 250 each), 10 turbolaser batteries (damage is 350 each), 5 ion cannon (damage is 200 each), and 10 tractor beam projectors (beam thrust of 250 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 300 and 100, respectively. Cost is 340 points. A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- Rebel CC-9600 Frigate: This is the latest iteration of the CC series of capital ships. Designed for pure combat, there is also sufficient cargo space for 3,400 troops for ground assault. Although it carries a number of shuttles, including a few assault shuttles, it lacks ferry capacity to unload the regiment quickly. It is 570 meters long and looks like a rectangle with catfish whiskers. It requires a crew of 3,800 to operate (includes gunners), but with a Command skill of 60 can operate with a skeleton crew of 1200. It carries 260 troops for internal defense (regardless of whether ground assault troops are being transported). It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 50, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 15 turbolaser batteries (damage is 350 each), 15 heavy turbolaser cannon (damage is 200 each), 10 ion cannon (damage is 200 each), 20 double laser cannons (damage is 235 each), and 4 tractor beam projectors (beam thrust of 300 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 170, respectively. Cost is 400 points. A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- Rebel Carrier Cruiser (Modified Bulk Cruiser): These ships are modified bulk transports, refitted to carry up to three starfighter squadrons. The Carrier Cruiser is 600 meters long. It requires 1,993 people to operate efficiently, though with a command skill of 50 it can operate with a skeleton crew of 840. 200 troops serve on board for the purpose of sending troops down to planets and to repel boarding parties. The Rebel Carrier Cruiser
has a hyperdrive rating of 2, a maneuverability rating of 65, and is not atmosphere
capable. Its offensive capabilities include 30 quad laser cannons (damage is 200 each) and 2 tractor beam projectors (tractor strength is 200 each). The hull strength rating is 250 and the shield strength rating is 100. Cost is 330.
- Corona-class Frigate: This line frigate is an improved escort vessel. It is 275 meters long and looks like a Nebulon-B Frigate except the spine is a fat cylinder and there is a conning tower command deck in front. It requires a crew of 838 (includes 56 gunners) to operate, but with a Command skill of 50 can operate with a skeleton crew of 56. It carries 80 troops. It carries
1 squadron of 12 fighters. It has a hyperdrive rating of 1, a maneuverability
rating of 45, and can travel at 850 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 10 turbolaser cannons (damage is 250 each), 10 laser cannon for anti-fighter defense (damage is 200 each), 4 ion cannon (damage is 150 each), and 2 tractor beam projectors (beam thrust of 300 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 100, respectively. Cost is 265 points.
- Defender-class Carrier: This lightly armed New-class (i.e., 5 months of consumables) assault carrier is mothership to a wing of fighters (6 squadrons of 12 each) - usually E-Wings or K-Wings. It is manufactured by Republic Engineering Corporation. It is a 700 meter long cylinder with a rectangular dock area on each side in the middle. It requires a crew of 4,070 (includes 20 gunners), but with a Command skill of 50 can operate with a skeleton crew of 1,350. It carries 700 troops. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 55, and can travel at 1,000 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 20 laser cannons for anti-fighter defense (damage is 250 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 350 and 200, respectively. Cost is 320 points. A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- Quaser Fire-class Cruiser-Carrier (Modified Bulk Cruiser): This is a modified bulk transport, refitted to carry
2 starfighter squadrons. Weapons and armor are light, so operating procedure is to discharge fighters and remain outside the combat zone. It is 350 meters long. It requires a crew of 110 (includes 14 gunners), but with a command skill of 50 can operate with a skeleton crew of 14. There are also 140 starfighter technicians and 85 troops. It has a hyperspace rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 55, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 2 laser cannons (damage is 200 each) and 2 tractor beam projectors (beam strength of 200 each) which are primarily used to recover damaged fighters. The hull and shield strength ratings are 165 and 15, respectively. Cost is 280.
- Nebulon-B Escort Frigate: One of the best support vessels for any fleet, this 300 meter long craft is used commonly by the Rebel Alliance. They are great for escort duty and ship-to-ship combat. They require a crew of 850 to operate at maximum efficiency, but with a "Command" skill of 50 can function with a skeleton crew of 307 people. Passenger capacity is 75 troops.
The Nebulon-B has a hyperdrive rating of 2, a maneuverability rating of 60,
and can travel at 800 km/h in most planetary atmospheres. They have twelve turbolaser batteries (all fired separately with damage ratings of 200), twelve laser cannons (all fired separately with damage ratings of 100), and 2 tractor beam projectors (tractor strength rating of 200). The Neb-B Frigate has a hull strength rating of 185 and a shield rating of 100. Cost is 235 points.
- Syphan-class Destroyer: The Syphan-class Destroyer was designed to perform escort duty and long-range patrol missions. It is a heavier craft than a gunboat, but lighter and faster than a modern frigate or Victory-class Destroyer.
This 310 meter long vessel looks like a smoothed cylinder with a short bit of pipe around the middle. It flies at 900 km/h in most planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 30/45, and has a hyperdrive rating of 0.90 provided by powerful Hoersch-Kessel Drive engines mounted mid-hull (the protrusion) so that there is an unobstructed rear field of fire. It has superb sub-light speed - often being the fastest ship in the combat zone --, acceleration and maneuverability. It requires a crew of 96 to operate (includes gunners), but with a Command skill of 45 can operate for short duration with a skeleton crew of 5 (no weapons capability at that level of staffing). The engines take up a lot of space on the Syphan-class Destroyer, so non-officer crew are required to bunk in shifts (i.e., they share bunks). There is a cramped internal hanger that holds an unarmed pinnace, and has space for two standard sized 1-being fighters on fast-launch racks or a small shuttle for customs inspection duty (crew for these spacecraft included in the 96 figure above). It carries 40 troopers who provide internal security and perform boarding duties. The Syphan-class Destroyer has 4 turbolaser batteries (damage rating of 350 each), 14 turret mounted quad laser cannons (damage is 200) with enhanced targeting electronics for use against fighters and other small craft, 6 concussion missile tubes (damage is
280 each), and one enhanced tractor beam projector (tractor beam strength rating of 250). The Syphan-class Destroyer features an upgraded sensor suit for picket duties, a modest electronic countermeasures/projectile jamming capability (deduct 35 from the gunnery skill attribute of attackers), commo jamming capability, an upgraded computer to permit it to rapidly calculate the destination of targets fleeing into hyperspace, and a Spartan brig for up to 6 unwelcome guests (designed to accommodate 3, but you can stack 'em like sardines!). The hull strength rating is 230 and the shield strength rating is 170. Cost is 240. (design by Captain "Call Me Commodore" Pickles)
- Sacheen-class Light Escort Cruiser: This New-class escort cruiser, built by Republic Engineering Corporation, is typically assigned screening duty for larger vessels or to protect supply convoys. It is 375 meters long and looks like an elongated triangle. It requires a crew of 110 (includes 46 gunners), but with a Command skill of 45 can operate with a skeleton crew of 22. It carries 6 passengers, and has supplies
to last for 5 months. It has a hangar capable of holding a squadron of starfighters (12 fighters per squadron), but few Sacheen Escort Cruisers have actually been assigned any fighters (and none are included with the ship on purchase). It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 55/70, and can travel at 1,000 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 10 heavy turbolaser cannons (damage is 350 each), 8 laser cannon (damage is 250 each) and 8 ion cannon (damage is 150 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 150, respectively. Cost is
205 points. A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
