Battle Zone Technology: Rebel Spacecraft
Fighter/Freighter Scale
- A-9 Vigilance Interceptor: Kuat Drive Yards (KDY) has always been a supporter and supplier of the Imperial Navy. However, just as Incom had some disloyal designers at the beginning of the Rebellion (which gave the Alliance their X-Wings), KDY lost an entire shipyard six years after the battle of Endor. This shipyard was working on the production of a new fighter, but the governor of that planet treated her workers like slaves. The workers deposed the government and sought out Imperial opposition to take possession of their new fighters. The A-9 seats one pilot. It flies at 1300 km/h in most planetary atmospheres and has
a maneuverability rating of 15/20, but does not have hyperspace capability. It has two heavy turbolaser cannons that do
260 damage when fire-linked or 200 fired separately. The hull strength rating is 110, and it has no shields. Cost is 85 points.
- A-Wing: Placing an emphasis on speed and maneuverability, these fighters
are perfect for base defense and escort mission profiles. The A-Wing interceptor seats only a pilot. It travels at 1300 km/h in most planetary atmospheres and
has a maneuverability rating of 20/20. The A-Wing's hyperspace rating is 1, but the navicomputer has a two jump limit. It has two laser cannons (damage rating is
220 when fire linked, 160 when fired separately). The A-Wing has a targeting jammer system, which penalizes an enemy by -20 on their gunnery skill when they try to fire at the A-Wing. The hull strength rating is115 and the shield rating is 40. Cost is 85 points.
- Aegis-class Combat Shuttle: A superior design for delivering troops or vehicles into a battle zone, the Aegis can carry three light combat vehicles, two medium-sized vehicles, one fairly large vehicle, or up to 40 troopers and their gear. The ship has two side panels that open rapidly to reveal deployment ramps. It require two to operate. It reaches speeds of 950 km/h in planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 40/40, and has no hyperdrive. It has two laser cannons (damage is 200 each) and two concussion missile launchers (damage is 280 each). The hull strength rating is 240 and the shield strength rating is 80. Cost is 150.
- Astrogator-class Probe Ship: This 35 meter long planar oval shaped ship (nicknamed the "Flatfish") is used by the Rebel Alliance for astrographic charting as all but the most common astrographic data was deemed classified by the Empire. It bristles with sensors and is used primarily for high-speed system over-flight missions. Ground missions are left to scouts. It requires a crew of 3 to operate. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 35/45, and can travel at 1,200 km/h in atmosphere. The hull strength is 150, and there is no shielding. Cost is 70 points.
- B-Wing: The B-Wing was designed as a heavy assault fighter, and has fit that role nicely for many years. Still considered to be a fine fighter, the Alliance is not displeased with this ship. There are three models of B-Wing: the B-Wing, the B-Wing/E, and the B-Wing/E2. The standard B-Wing seats one pilot, has a speed of 1000 km/h in most planetary
atmospheres, has a maneuverability rating of 45/45, has a hyperdrive rating of 2, but the navicomputer has a two jump limit. The standard B-Wing has two laser cannons (damage rating is
280 when fire linked, or 200 fired separately), three medium ion cannons (ion damage rating is 160 when fire linked, 80 when fired separately), and 1 proton torpedo launcher (damage rating is 360). The B-Wing/E adds a gunner in the cockpit, giving the craft a better ability to be accurate in a dogfight. The B-Wing/E2 has the gunner,
and a second proton torpedo (proton torpedo damage rating is 400 when fire-linked, or 360 when fired separately). All versions of the B-Wing starfighter have a hull strength rating of 200 and a shield strength rating of 115. Cost is 150.
- E-Wing: In the early years after the battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance renamed itself the New Republic. For a period of six years, they began to think that their role as the military underdog would change. Thus, the design of a new starfighter began in earnest, and the E-Wing was born. The E-Wing is the only thing that was accomplished under the auspices of the New Republic that lasted. The ship is rugged and powerful like the B-Wing. The only drawback is that the astromech port for the E-Wing only fits a certain type of droid, the R7. This is hardly a problem, but the R7 series is more expensive, since it was designed FOR the E-Wing series fighter. Seats a pilot and an R7 astromech droid. Flies at 1300 km/h in most planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 35/35, and has a hyperspace rating of 2. It has a triple heavy blaster configuration (damage rating is 240 when fire linked, 160 when fired separately) and one proton torpedo launcher (damage rating is 360). The hull strength rating is 200 and the shield strength rating is 40. Cost is 130.
- Ferret: This expensive, top-secret stealth-spy ship is designed to perform short-term reconnaissance missions in heavily patrolled, hostile space. The ships do not officially exist, and the Rebel Alliance will not attempt to recover the crew from failed missions. It is built by Republic Engineering Corporation. The Ferret is coated with sensor-baffling materials and a Fabritech sensor mask - the Alliance's most advanced stealth technology. It is propelled by both twin ion engines and a super-cooled chemical-thrust baffled drive. According to Cracken's Threat Dossier, the baffling has a one hour time limit: "at system's edge the ship uses its ion engines at dead slow, while nearer the target the
Ferret typically runs under inertia, saving thrust for course correction." It is 28 meters long and looks like an S-Swoop. It requires a crew of 3 to operate, but is piloted by dedicated droid brains. The Ferret is capable of fair speed, but typically travels slowly to minimize the odds of detection and droids are better able to cope with the monotony and take less space than organic pilots. It has a limited cargo capacity of 2 metric tons, and supplies for 3 months. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 20, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 2 missile launchers (damage is 350 each; 6 missiles carried) and sensor decoys able to mimic a number of ship signals to confuse and mislead sensors (12 carried). Ferrets also have uni-directional laser-flash signalers for inter-ship communications. These ships have a self-destruct mechanism activated by the organic crew. The hull strength ratings is 100 and there are no shields. Cost is 250 points. A character must have permission from a high-ranking military intelligence officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- Kappa-class Troop Shuttle: Dating back to the Old Republic Navy, this ship design has recently been pulled back into action. It can carry a full platoon of 40 men into a hot landing zone quickly, using its weaponry to give the troopers cover fire while they set up their operation zone. After the fall of the Old Republic, this design was scrubbed by the Empire in favor of their "Brick" drop ships. Rebel Command has recently opted to utilize this effective design themselves. The Kappa requires two to operate it. It can fly at 850 km/h in planetary atmosphere,
has a maneuverability rating of 55/55, and has a hyperdrive rating of 1. Offensively, the Kappa has two double blaster cannons (damage is 190 each) and two repeating blaster cannons (damage is 170 each). The hull strength rating is 160 and the shield strength rating is 40. Cost is 130.
- Katarn-class Boarding Shuttle: Designed and built by Rendili StarDrive for quickly moving troops into boarding actions. The Katarn-class shuttle features a nose-end boarding airlock. The ship rams a prize, seals the airlock to its hull, and allow the boarding party to pass into the captured vessel all in under two minutes time! It requires two to operate. It flies at 1050 km/h in planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 45/45, and has no hyperdrive. It has a double laser cannon facing front (damage is 200) and a plasma torch boarding device (damage is 320 but the range is only four meters). The hull strength rating is 200 and the shield strength rating is 80. Cost is120.
- Longprobe Y-Wing: This unarmed version of the Y-Wing was designed for scouting unknown systems and other long range reconnaissance duties. The cabin accommodates a crew of 2, and there is an exterior astromech droid. The ship has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 30/40, and can fly 1,000 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement has been sacrificed in favor of extended fuel tanks, improved hyperdrive engines, rations storage, high-gain long-range sensors, advanced processors and hypertransceivers to monitor the Imperial hyperbroadcast spectrum. There is a self-destruct button that thoroughly disintegrates the ship and the droid. The hull and shield strength ratings are 160 and 70, respectively. Cost is 100 points. A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- Prowler: This is the long-term spy mission version of the Ferret. It has an expanded 48 meter Ferret body and is only slightly less stealthy (but costs less). It does exist in official records, but is top secret. It is coated with sensor-baffling materials and a highly advanced sensor mask, and propelled by ion engines and a baffled drive with three hours of thrust (that's two hours more than the one hour of a Ferret). It requires a crew of 6 to operate (one of which is the pilot). The Prowler is half as fast as a Ferret sublight. It has a limited cargo capacity of 3 metric tons, and supplies for 5 months. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 20, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 2 missile launchers (damage is 350 each; 12 missiles carried) and sensor decoys able to mimic a number of ship signals to confuse and mislead sensors (24 carried). Prowlers also have uni-directional laser-flash signalers for inter-ship communications. These ships have a self-destruct mechanism activated by the crew. The hull strength ratings is 150 and there are no shields. Cost is 250 points. A character must have permission from a high-ranking intelligence officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- Reconnaissance X-Wing (T-65BR): Somewhat elderly X-Wings have been upgraded for reconnaissance duties rather than scrapped or fully refitted. The cabin accommodates a crew of 1, and there is an exterior R2 astromech droid that serves as navicomputer and can hold 10 hyperspace jumps. The ship has a hyperdrive rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 25/20, and can fly 1,050 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 4 wing mounted, front arc firing laser cannons (damage 300 when fire-linked, 250 when fired separately). The torpedo launchers have been removed and replaced with high-gain long-range sensors, advanced processors and high-speed hypertransceivers to monitor the Imperial hyperbroadcast spectrum. These modifications result in a visually distinct enlarged nacelle package with transmitter disk. There is a self-destruct button in the pilot's cabin that permanently deletes the ship's computer memory and R2 unit's memory, activates a shaped charge that destroys the R2 unit, injects a fatal poison into the pilot and (after the pilot's death) detonates a baradium charge that destroys the T-65BR and any nearby small ships, in that order. Self-destruct is standard operating procedure to prevent capture. The T-65BR is highly automated and can be operated entirely by the R2 unit. The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 50, respectively. Cost is 120 points. A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.
- O-Wing: One of the latest contributions of Mon Calamari to the Rebel Fleet, the O-wing is a combination of high maneuverability, high speed, and high damage output. As with all Mon Cal designs, no two ships are
entirely identical. The O-wing seats one pilot. It has a standard hyperdrive (hyperdrive rating is 1).
The O-Wing has a hyperdrive rating of 1, a maneuverability rating of 10/25,
and the fly at 1450 km/h in planetary atmosphere. It has two laser cannons (damage rating is 280 when fire-linked and 240 when fired separately) and two proton torpedo launchers (damage rating is 360 for each). The O-wing has a hull strength rating of 180 and a shield strength rating of 80. View the O-wing from the Side! and Rear! Cost is 130.
A character must be a military officer of the Rebel Alliance to purchase one of these ships.

- X-Wing: The backbone of the Rebel Alliance. This fighter still plays a pivotal role in space battles, but is slowly stepping aside to make way for newer, faster, sleeker ships. seats a pilot and an astromech
droid. The X-Wing has a hyperspace rating of 1, a maneuverability rating of
25/20, and flies at 1050 km/h in most planetary atmospheres. It carries four laser cannons (damage rating is
280 when fire-linked, 200 when fired separately) and two proton torpedo launchers (damage rating is a whopping 360 for each). The hull strength rating is 160 and the shield rating is 40. Cost is 120 points.
- Y-Wing: Made nearly obsolete by the introduction of the A and B-wings at the Battle of Endor, the Y-wing still sees a bit of service as a planetary defense fighter and in a recon/bomber function. seats a pilot, one astromech droid, and can seat a gunner.
The Y-Wing has a hyperspace rating of 1, a maneuverability rating of 30/40,
and flies at 1000km/h in most planetary atmospheres. Carries two laser cannons (damage rating is
220 when fire-linked, 180 fired separately), two proton torpedo launchers (damage rating for each is 360), and two light ion cannons (ion damage rating is 160 when fire-linked, 120 fired separately). The hull strength rating is 160 and the shield rating is 70. Cost is 100 points.
