Battle Zone Technology: Space Installations
Imperial Platforms
- Imperial Repair Station: This is the kind of orbiting repair facility used at Bakura. It looks like a plus sign with a 460 meter diameter, with each wing being a dock. It has repair docks for three capital ships under 200 meters long and a single dock which can hold 30 starfighters, and docking facilities for transports and pinnaces used. It requires a crew of 24 (includes gunners) and carries 300 passengers (mostly technicians). It can maneuver and reposition itself slowly, but has no hyperspace capability. The weapons complement consists of 8 turbolasers (damage is 250 each), and there is a centrally mounted tractor beam (beam strength of 200) to help secure ships under repair. The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 150, respectively. Not available for purchase.
- Kuat Drive Yards Type II Orbiting Repair Yard: This 1,200 meter long grid-like deep-dock shipyard is used to repair and construct Imperial capital ships up to Imperial Star Destroyers. It is modular, reconfigurable and hyperspace capable. These yards are supposed to be defended by at least a full escort force and Stormtrooper company. It requires a crew of 4,114 and carries 400 passengers (troops). It has a hyperdrive rating of 4, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 9 tractor beam projectors (beam thrust is 200 each) generally used for construction and repairs. The hull and shield strength ratings are 315 and 115, respectively. Not available for purchase.
- XQ1 Platform (PLT/1): The PLT/1 space platform is the favorite advanced base of the Imperial Navy. It can be constructed in a just a few weeks. It looks like three equidistant wings on a single plane attached to a central hub, and is 500 meters in diameter. It has a crew of 1,123 (includes gunners), can accommodate 2,200 passengers and has docking bays and holds for 1 full wing of fighters (12 squadrons of 6 fighters), assorted shuttles, tugs and light craft. Larger vessels can dock against the wings, and additional fighters and shuttles can land on, and remain temporarily parked, the wings. The weapons complement consists of 60 laser cannons (damage is 250 each), 12 concussion missile tubes located 6 on top of the central hub, 6 on bottom (damage is 360), and 4 tractor beams (tractor beam strength rating is 200 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 135, respectively. Cost is 200 points.
Neutral Platforms
- Golan I-class Space Defense Station: Referred to as the "SpaceGun model," the Golan I is an orbiting combat platform designed for defense duty around smaller outposts, such as civilian shipbuilding facilities and colony worlds. It has a length of 1,231 meters, requires a crew of 325 (includes 112 gunners), and has a 40 troop passenger capacity. The weapons complement consists of 28 turret-mounted turbolaser batteries (damage is 235 each), 5 turret-mounted proton torpedo launchers (damage is 350 each), and 6 turret-mounted tractor beam projectors (beam strength is 200 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 100, respectively. Cost is 200 points.
- Golan II-class Space Defense Station: The Golan II is a massive orbital fort, bristling with weapons. It was designed to protect planets and other strategic areas of space against starfighter and light capital combat starship assaults. The unique "crossbeam" hull structure makes it capable of absorbing a great deal of punishment. It has a length of 2,158 meters, requires a crew of 699 (includes 149 gunners), and has a 80 troop passenger capacity. The weapons complement consists of 35 turret-mounted turbolaser batteries (damage is 250 each), 10 turret-mounted proton torpedo launchers (damage is 450 each), and 8 turret-mounted tractor beam projectors (beam strength is 300 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 115, respectively. Cost is 250 points.
- Golan III-class Space Defense Station: The Golan III is a much more powerful defense station and is geared towards military installations and vital civilian facilities. It is the largest platform Golan Arms manufactures. It has a length of 2,600 meters, requires a crew of 1,108 (includes 228 gunners), and has a 100 troop passenger capacity. The weapons complement consists of 50 turret-mounted turbolaser batteries (damage is 250 each), 24 turret-mounted proton torpedo launchers (damage is 450 each), and 15 turret-mounted tractor beam projectors (beam strength is 300 each). The hull and shield strength ratings are 265 and 200, respectively. Cost is 300 points.
- Globus I-class Orbital Fort: The Globus I Orbital Fort was designed to defend key planets from attack by heavy battlegroups including Class E Capital ships. According to the designer, "one of the best things about orbital forts and platforms is that planets need to buy at least two to provide full coverage against those nasty Imperial superlasers that can crack a planetary crust!" The Globus I looks like a spheroid covered with bumps. Upon closer inspection, those bumps are 18 huge turrets with triple-pack extra heavy turbolaser batteries. This main armament has modestly better range than the best Imperial Superlaser, and a top-notch fire control system permits up to five main turrets to fire-link. The Globus I is 4,700 meters in diameter on the widest axis. It has a crew of 22,441 (includes gunners), and carries 12,000 troops. Interior corridors are designed with internal defense in mind, including traps, weapons ports, automatic defenses, magnetically shielded bulkheads and corridors, sally points, kill zones, and other nasty surprises. It has docking bays and holds for 4 wings of starfighters (6 fighters per squadron, 12 squadrons per wing), assorted shuttles, tugs and other craft. Larger docking bays can accommodate vessels of 500 meters or less. In addition to the best long-range and battlefield sensor suite available to the Rebel Alliance, the Globus-I features an advanced fire control system that optimizes target acquisition, weapons selection and fire-linkage. It has no hyperspace capability, but can slowly maneuver and move within a system at sublight speeds to adjust orbit height or change stationing. It can also rotate in place to move damaged shields and weapons systems away from the kill-zone. It features overlapping redundant shield arrays (instead of backup shields, which by definition are off-line most of the time), segregated additional shielding units on the primary weapons turrets, interior shielding for the six multiple massive power generators, and anti-starfighter weaponry mounted on the main turrets (as well as elsewhere). The weapons complement consists of 18 main turrets with triple-pack extra heavy turbolaser batteries (damage is 650 per turret when the triple-pack of one turret is fire-linked, 475 per turbolaser fired separately). 200 heavy turbolaser batteries (damage is 300 each), 500 quad laser cannons (damage is 250 each), 46 ion cannons (damage is 150 each), 100 triple-pack turret mounted concussion missile tubes (damage is 450 each), and 60 tractor beams (tractor beam strength rating is 300 each). It also has a gravity well generator and 6 gravity well projectors to keep enemy ships from short-range hyperspace attack runs and untimely escapes. The hull and shield strength ratings are 900 and 1,100, respectively. Not available for purchase. (design by Admiral
Kanaris)

The hull and shield strength ratings are 300 and 135, respectively. Cost is 250 points.
- XQ5 Platform (PLT/5): The PLT/5 is commonly found in deep space. It has large cargo holds it is typically used as a way station by long range research and exploration vessels. It looks like three equidistant triangular wings on a single plane attached like flower petals to the middle of a flattened hour-glass shaped central hub, and is 500 meters in diameter. It has a crew of 3,109 (includes gunners), can accommodate 6,000 passengers and has docking bays and holds for 1 full wing of fighters (12 squadrons of 6 fighters), assorted shuttles, tugs and light craft.
