Grand Admiral Thrawn
- Cold, calculating, and keenly perceptive, Thrawn was one of the greatest threats ever faced by the short-lived New Republic. That an alien could achieve the rank of Grand Admiral in the pro-human Imperial military is indicative of his skill.
- Thrawn's military genius earned him exile from his people. The concept of a pre-emptive strike was foreign to the Chiss, and Thrawn was viewed as a menace for his provocative ideas.
- During Palpatine's ascent in power, Thrawn was a trusted agent. He was dispatched on a secret mission that saw the death of a team of Jedi Masters who sought to explore beyond the reaches of the galaxy. The destruction of the
Outbound Flight project would go unsolved for decades, although details have been leaked to certain members of the Imperial Fleet’s upper echelons.
- It was five years after Palpatine's death that Thrawn began his campaign against the New Republic. He needed no gargantuan superweapon for his victories, for his mind was a formidable weapon. Thrawn, by studying the art and psychology of his enemies, was able to outmaneuver them time and again. In an engagement at the Bilbringi shipyards, Thrawn pulled off his greatest military feat. Intending to cause disruption from within the growing Republic’s bounds, Thrawn had himself cloned. During the battle, Thrawn hid himself within the shipyard facility while the clone dictated the fortunes of the battle. The clone was killed by Thrawn’s treacherous Noghri bodyguard Rukh, causing the Imperial fleet to fall into disarray, as no one, not even his protégé Admiral Gilad Pellaeon was privy to his designs. Thrawn and the cabal of operatives who had been hidden with him would remain in hiding for several months.
- During the reborn Emperor’s attempt to take Coruscant, Thrawn’s team activated itself. The headquarters of the New Republic fell, and the Republic’s strongholds suddenly became toppled like so many dominos. Thrawn took up his position of Grand Admiral in the Empire with the re-establishment of Imperial Center, although his existence remains a closely guarded secret.
- Foreseeing a need, Thrawn took it upon himself to tutor several of the remaining top Imperial officers in advanced military tactics. The best of Thrawn’s students became Grand Admirals, and to better fight the Rebel Alliance the Grand Admirals formed a secret council, where they work on coordinating the vast military operations of the Empire. Knowledge of a secret Imperial base called ‘the Hand of Thrawn’ has become a callsign among those Thrawn feels have significant tactical ability.
- Thrawn remains the best tactician among those who were his former students and heads the council during his short returns from operations within the Unknown Regions. Among certain of his works are the propaganda campaign that was created around Kyp Durron’s destruction of Carida, suppression of an insignificant revolution on Almania, and the recovery of the Black Fleet from Yevethan hands.
