Special Units are extremely specialised troops that appear on the battlefield less often than basic regiments.

There is a maximum number of Special Units that can be fielded, and this varies with the size of the army (see "Armies of Albion").

MAMLUKS

Points/model: 27


The Mamluks are elite slave cavalry serving as the Sultan's private army.

Units Size: 5+

Weapons: The Mamluks wear heavy armour and carry a shield, and ride barded warhorses. They are armed with a sword and a lance.

Options:

  • Upgrade one Mamluk into a Musician for +6 pts.
  • Upgrade one Mamluk into a Standard Bearer for +12 pts.
  • Promote one Mamluk to a Champion for +10 pts.
  • One unit that contains a Standard Bearer may carry a magic standard worth up to 50 pts.

Special Rules:

Lance Formation. Mamluks may use the Lance formation.

Immune to Psychology. The Mamluks are totally without fear due to their religious zeal and their loyalty oaths to the Sultan, so they are immune to all psychology, Break and Panic tests.

 

WAFIDIYA

Points/model: 17


The Wafidiya are fierce horsemen from the eastern lands, and some say they are related to Gospodars of Kislev.

Weapons: Bow, spear, and hand weapons, and shield.

Options:

  • Any unit may be equipped with light armour (+1 pt per model) and/or a shield (+1 pt).
  • Upgrade one Wafidiya into a Musician for +6 pts.
  • Upgrade one Wafidiya into a Standard Bearer for +12 pts.
  • Promote one Wafidiya to a Champion for +10 pts.

Special Rules:

Skirmish.  Wafidiya may skirmish, as described in the rules for skirmishing troops in the Warhammer rulebook.

 

ENGINEERS

Points/model: 8


The Araby armies often contain units of Engineers with Midfa. Midfa are Arabic hand guns. They are decorated with carvings and jewels and each is a work of art.

  • Promote one Engineer to a Champion for +10 pts.

Ghazis are seekers of paradise, and fanatics.

  • Any unit may be equipped with light armour (+1 pt per model).
  • Upgrade one Ghazi into a Musician for +5 pts.
  • Upgrade one Ghazi into a Standard Bearer for +10 pts.
  • Promote one Ghazi to a Champion for +10 pts.

Special Rules:

Skirmishers.  Ghazis may skirmish, as described in the rules for skirmishing troops in the Warhammer rulebook.

Frenzy.  Ghazis are subject to the rules for frenzy in the Warhammer rulebook.

 

BOLT THROWER*

Sometimes when the Arabian armies march off to war they bring machines of destruction with them for battering down city walls or smashing their enemies' battle lines.  The Bolt Thrower is one such war machine.
