Heroes (Heroes, Wizards, Runecarvers, Shamanesses, Shield Maiden Heroes, Berserker Heroes, Ogre Leaders, and Dwarf Thanes) make great leaders for regiments.

The total number of characters you can field in your army can be found in the "Armies of Norsca" section.

*BATTLE STANDARD BEARER
One Hero in the army may carry the Battle Standard for +25 pts.

The Battle Standard Bearer cannot be the army's General even if he has the highest Leadership value in the army.

The Battle Standard Bearer cannot choose any non-magical equipment except for light or heavy armour.

He cannot be mounted on a Griffon.

The Battle Standard Bearer may have any magic banner (no points limit), but if he carries a magic banner he cannot carry any other magic item.

HERO

Points/model: 85


Heroes are warriors of exceptional prowse and courage.  They have gained much fame and fortune with their skills, and are often sent to lead small bands of warriors into battle.

Weapons: Hand weapon.

Options:

  • May choose either a great weapon (+4 pts) or an additional hand weapon (+3 pts).
  • May wear either light armour (+2 pts) or heavy armour (+4 pts), and may also carry a shield (+2 pts).
  • May ride either a warhorse (+10 pts) a Bear (+25 pts) or a Griffon (+200 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

 

WIZARD

Points/model: 90


Within the lands of Norsca there are many wizards of various sorts.  Sometimes they have training from a College of Magic, but mostly they are trained in their art by the spirits of their ancestors.

Weapons: Hand weapon.

Magic: A Wizard is a Level 1 Wizard.  He may choose one of the following Lores: Life; Beasts; Fire; Heavens.

Options:

  • May be upgraded to a Level 2 Wizard for +35 pts.
  • May ride either a warhorse (+15 pts), a Bear (+25 pts) or a Griffon (+200 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

 

GODI

Points/model: 120


The Godi are the only true Priests of the Norscans.  They are fighter priests and accompany the armies when they go to war.  They invoke Odin's blessing for the coming battle and they administer the warrior rights to the fallen so that they will pass on to Valhalla.

  • May choose either a great weapon (+6 pts) or an additional hand weapon (+3 pts).
  • May wear light armour (+3 pts), and may also carry a shield (+3 pts).
  • May ride either a warhorse (+15 pts), a Bear (+25 pts) or a Griffon (+200 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

Special Rules:

Inspirational. Godi are inspirational characters, and they inspire the troops to higher morale, so any unit that fails a Break test within 8" of a Godi may immediately reroll that test one time for each occurrence.

Immune to Psychology.  Godi are immune to psychology, panic, and break tests.  If they are ever required to take any Ld test, they will pass it automatically, so no dice are rolled.

 

RUNECARVER

Points/model: 70


Runecarvers create magic runes for use by the heroes of Norsca.  They also use these runes to cast complex spells.

Weapons: Hand weapon.

Magic: A Runecarver is a Level 1 Wizard.  He must purchase runes to be able to cast spells.

Options:

  • May be upgraded to a Level 2 Wizard for +20 pts.
  • May ride either a warhorse (+15 pts), a Bear (+25 pts) or a Griffon (+200 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

Special Rules:

Runes.  Runecarvers must purchase magic runes in order to cast any magic.  They may use Power dice just as any other magic user, and they may use Power dice to reinforce the strength of their magic runes and/or to aid dispels.

 

SHAMANESS

Points/model: 95


Shamanesses weave the more primal Winds of Magic that flow through Norsca.   They are more in touch with the nature spirits than the Runecarvers or Wizards of Norsca.

Weapons: Hand weapon.

Magic: A Shamaness is a Level 1 Wizard.  She may use spells from the Lore of Life.

Options:

  • May be upgraded to a Level 2 Wizard for +35 pts.
  • May ride either a warhorse (+15 pts), a Bear (+25 pts) or a Griffon (+200 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

Special Rules:

Fear. Shamanesses decorate their clothing, hair, and bodies with bones, skulls, and other gruesome items.  They are so loathsome looking they cause fear.

 

SHIELD MAIDEN HEROES

Shield Maidens are women warriors who for one reason or another have chosen the warrior path.

BERSERKER HERO

Points/model: 110


Berserkers are battle fanatics dedicated to Odin.  They fight in the great armies of Norsca to prove their worth to the gods, so that they may have their place in Valhalla when their time comes to die.

Options:

  • May have an additional sword (+4 pts) or a great weapon (+6 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

Special Rules:

Frenzy. Berserkers are subject to the rules for Frenzy.

Killing Blow. Berserkers strike to wound with a Strength Value equal to the Toughness value of their opponent if it is higher than their natural strengths, up to 2x their natural Strength.

 

OGRE LEADER

Points/model: 200


Most Ogres are not all that bright, but there are some who are quite intelligent and possess great natural cunning (some can even read and write!). These more intelligent Ogres naturally rise to the top and are often found leading bands of Ogre mercenaries.

  • May have an additional hand weapon (+6 pts) or great weapon (+12 pts).
  • May wear light armour (+3 pts) or heavy armour (+6 pts), and carry a shield (+3 pts).
  • May choose magic items from the Common magic item list or magic runes from the Norscan Runes list, with a maximum total value of 50 pts.

Special Rules:

Ogre Leader.  Ogre Leaders will only lead bands of Ogres.   They are not part of the main Norscan army.  This means that you may only take an Ogre Leader if you have a unit of Ogres, and they may never lead the Norscan army or be its Battle Standard Bearer.

 

DWARF THANE (HERO)

Points/model: 55


Dwarf Warriors are grim and determined fighters. Being extremely stubborn they refuse to run away in all but the most desperate circumstances.

Special Rules:

Hate Orcs, Resolute (2D6=1" flee/pursue move), Relentless (may march even within 8" of the enemy)
