The life of a common smuggler and bounty hunter was quickly becoming tiresome to the redhead, whose tendencies drifted more towards gala affairs and regal surroundings. The bitterness was growing day by day, and then Mara met Talon Karrde.
Karrde was ever the suave business man, and his calm approach to her own hotheadedness initially appealed to Miss Jade. He soon recognized her myriad of talents, though he still didn't know of their origin, and hired her on to become a personal bodyguard. Mara excelled in this type of work, and was much happier being the man's personal protection than she was traipsing around the galaxy, being forced to deal with all the scum it had to offer.
After a few months, Talon Karrde began to earn a sort of grudging respect from Jade. She didn't give her loyalty out easily, and so it was surprising even to her when she realized that he was earning it. Apparently, she was also beginning to earn his trust, because he handed her more and more duties as time progressed. Then one day, she ran across a certain Jedi once more, this time incapacitated and at her mercy. This was a certain test of her loyalty to Karrde. (To read about that little adventure, go back to my main page and check out Talon Karrde's home page. He has a log there entitled 'A Jedi in need, and greed'. You can read the entire scene of Skywalker's kidnapping by yours truly :D) Oddly enough, that loyalty did win out over her hatred for Luke Skywalker. But the whole incident did send her off on a fool's trip with the Jedi, who seemed to convince the stormtroopers that found him that she was his wife, much to her dismay. (For these and other wonderful logs, see Luke's page. Some of them are hilarious.)
Finally, she did manage to make her way back to Kichnar and her home base with Karrde, where they had a gala opening for the Casino there. It took her back to her glory days with the Empire. Partly wistful, sad, and slightly bitter, it was still an enjoyable event for her. It's not often these days that she gets to dress up.
Recently, the woman disappeared for a few months, and no one from her crew had much to say about her whereabouts for the few beings that asked about her. Rumors flew about a deadly temper that was plaguing her. There was even some talk that she shot down an innocent bystander in a park or something, but nothing ever came of it. Regardless, before she left on the mysterious trip, she was known to become distant, and even hostile for no apparent reason. After she reappeared, with absolutely no explanation about her disappearance to outsiders, she seemed a bit calmer, more relaxed. Even some of the bitterness that was her face's constant companion had faded a bit. A few of the more perceptive beings even noticed that she had begun to wear a new piece of jewelry...a silver cylinder sometimes seen hanging from her belt.
Mara Jade, or simply Jade as she's known by almost everyone, continues in her role as a security officer for Talon Karrde's organization and has recently been seen in the company of Lando Calrissian. Still, little is known about her, and she doesn't seem to be the talkative type...
