Summary

Jake is doing a profile of Bashir for a magazine, and they are on their way back from a conference when they receive a distress call from Ajilon Prime, a Federation colony being attacked by Klingons. Excited by the prospect of a story, Jake persuades Bashir to go there. Bashir joins the medics while Jake tries to make himself useful, but his first up-close experience of war, without his father to protect him, shakes him, and he panics, deserting a wounded Bashir. Though Bashir recovers, Jake is overwhelmed by shame. As the medics evacuate, Jake fires a phaser at pursuing Klingons, bringing down a rockfall and aiding the medics' escape. Back at the station, Jake lets his father read his honest account of the event.
