30. Sanctuary

Summary

A ship of refugees from the Gamma Quadrant arrives. It is only the first in a fleet carrying three million Skrreeans, former slaves who are seeking a new homeworld. Their legends state that beyond the "eye of the universe" (interpreted as the wormhole) lies that new world, Kentanna. Their de facto leader, Haneek, comes to believe that Bajor may in fact be Kentanna, and petitions the Bajoran government to allow her people to settle there. However, the government refuses, saying Bajor can't afford even to feed all its own people. Haneek's son Tumak steals a ship and tries to land on Bajor anyway, but the ship is destroyed in a tragic accident. Haneek sadly accepts the alternative of settling on another world instead.
