Summary

A. Sisko has found an ancient blueprint for an Bajoran spaceship, propelled by light, and decides to build one, in hopes of proving that such a ship could make it to Cardassia, as one is reputed to have done 800 years ago. He builds it, and sets off with Jake, who on the way reveals that he has been accepted to Pennington School on a writing fellowship, but wants to defer it. The lightship is knocked off course by a tachyon eddy, and ends up at Cardassia. The Cardassians, with unexpected graciousness, give them congratulations and even a fireworks display.

B. On the station, Bashir is in a state over a visit from Dr. Elizabeth Lense, who was valedictorian of his class at Starfleet Medical; the two end up friends.
