97. Body Parts

Summary

A. Quark returns from Ferenginar with the news that he has been diagnosed with Dorek syndrome, a rare, incurable, fatal disease. To raise capital to pay off his debts, he puts his vacuum-desiccated remains on the futures market. An anonymous buyer offers a huge sum for them, which Quark accepts. Then Quark learns he was misdiagnosed, but the buyer, who turns out to be Brunt, refuses to let him out of the contract. Brunt sees Quark as a danger to Ferengi society, because he has been too influenced by non-Ferengi values. Finally Quark violates a Rule of Acquisition by breaking the contract. Brunt gleefully confiscates his assets; Quark is now an outcast among Ferengi. However, DS9 personnel restock and refurnish the bar.

B. Due to a runabout accident, Bashir is forced to transfer Keiko's unborn child to Kira. Because of Bajoran physiology, Kira must carry the baby to term. Wanting to be near their child, the O'Briens invite Kira to stay with them, and she accepts.
