The Doctor and his companion Carlos have been diverted to Gallifrey by the Time Lords for a mission of great importance. They must travel to Earth to retrieve a mysterious and dangerous relic created during the time of Rassilon. Without it, Gallifrey might again become as it was in the Dark Times of the distant past. But all is not as it seems, as the Doctor soon finds out. He meets an old and deadly enemy, and this confrontation will have the most dire of consequences. To save the lives of everyone in the universe, the Doctor may have to sacrifice his own...
