My Brother

These tears, I shed them for you

One of the greatest people I know

Your courage amazes me

Now there’s one horizon you’ll never see

I feel your pain and your fear

I listen close, but I hate to hear

What someone else’s foolishness cost

Something you have forever lost

***

I thank you Lord, for his life

And ask you to ease his strife

Help him see this victory he has won

and that he’s a special someone.

Give him strength to get through

Let him know that I love him too

And I’m sorry I never told him before

Thank you for this one chance more

***

You know to me you are the best

And now you must face the hardest test

I do not know the reason why

And all I can do is cry

Maybe you have ridden your last mile

but you must never lose your smile

We love you and you’ll never be replaced by another

there’ll never be someone like you, my brother

my brother, Jeremy Maartens

Last year a few weeks before the cycling world championships my brother was out training and was hit by a car. It was a very traumatic experience. He luckily surrvived, but could obviously not go through to the championships to acheive his goals. I am almost certain that it was because of his strong will that  he recovered so quickly. At the moment he is cycling in   Johannesburg, South Africa. He recently raced at Mauritious with the Minolta team , came second and helped the team to win the team prize. Next year he is off to France to pusue his dream of becoming a proffesional Cyclist. I will miss him even more then. But i will be happy for him to.

Good Luck Jeremy. We Love You/
