Death Mountain Trail

Along the main hiking trail of Death Mountain there are one Piece of Heart, four Gold Skulltula and two Gossip Stones. Time flows normally along the trail, but there isn't much of a difference in the Trail's daytime and nighttime versions. Death Mountain Trail essentially doesn't change depending on Link's age, and for that reason, I'm not splitting up the Trail into Adult and Young Link sections. Only Young Link will encounter Gorons as he climbs up the trail (one of them is rolling, so watch it!). Adult Link will find some boulders as he climbs the mountain. Some are stationary red ones, others are moving and dangerous!
You'll first enter the trail from Kakariko Village, and the first major landmark you'll pass is Dodongo's Cavern; at first, Young Link will find it blocked by a rather large boulder. Also near the entrance to the cavern is a soft soil patch.
As you proceed along the trail (being careful not to fall down, as there are some bottomless pits around....), you will come to a sign which points you in the direction of Goron City. If you go that way, you'll come to first a platform with a suspicious-looking circle of stones. Just left of this circle of stones is an overhang with a Bomb Flower (and a Goron, if you're Young). Anyway, at the far end of the circle of stones is the main entrance to Goron City.
If you decide not to visit Goron City but instead decide to view the rest of the trail, then simply ignore the sign and keep climbing up. However, Young Link will find the path blocked by boulders the first time he climbs up: simply Bomb the boulders (the last one requires the Bomb to be thrown, so make sure you have a good stock).
If you continue along the trail past the blocked section, you'll come to what I call the Gauntlet: Young Link and Adult Link without the Fire Medallion will find it raining rocks. Young Link needs to duck underneath the Hylian Shield, but Adult Link can simply watch the shadows and avoid them.
Upon completion of the Gauntlet, you'll have to climb a vertical cliff (avoiding Skullwalltulas and Red Tektites while you're at it) before you finally reach the summit. Young Link will find Kaepora Gaebora there, who will offer you a lift to the roof of Impa's house at Kakariko Village, while Adult Link will find Biggoron. You will also find the entrance to the Death Mountain Crater there.

GREAT FAIRY FOUNTAIN
At the summit of Death Mountain, there is a weak wall next to the entrance of Death Mountain Crater. Bomb it and you'll have access to the Great Fairy of Power, who will grant you the Flame Spin.

Goron City
Within the home of the Goron race there is one Piece of Heart, two Gold Skulltula and two Gossip Stones. Time stands still in the city, and it remains the same whatever time it it.
Goron City is basically a series of tunnels winding down and around, with the Gorons standing around as they please. The Gorons will only stand up when Link gets close to them, so don't mistake them for boulders.
On the first level of Goron City is the entrance to the Death Mountain Trail and the boulder maze. Young Link must have Bombs to explore this area, though Adult Link should return with the Hammer to uncover more goodies. Also accessable from the top level of the city is a series of ropes leading out to the centre platform. The centre platform has a stand where the Spiritual Stone of Fire is usually held.

Death Mountain Crater
Over the crater of Death Mountain you will find two Pieces of Heart, two Gold Skulltula and two Gossip Stones. Time stands still in the crater, and nothing changes over day or night. Remember that the lava at the Crater will swallow you whole if you fall in.
Young Link
Young Link can enter the Crater using the Bolero of Fire or from Death Mountain Trail. You will not be able to explore very much of here, but what little you can explore is necessary to find absolutely everything. Near the point you warp to with the Bolero, there is a soft soil patch.
Adult Link
The Crater can mostly be explored by Adult Link, though it's best by then to have the Goron Tunic so you can survive the Crater's intense heat. At the very least, visitors to the crater should have at least the Hookshot. Cross the broken bridge near the Goron City entrance and you'll be able to gain the Bolero of Fire.
If you're going to make the most of your stay in the crater, then you have the Bolero of Fire, the Hammer, Scarecrow's Song and Longshot. Oh, and you see that boulder near the lava gap you have to jump accross if you're going to leave the Crater by a different path? You'll have to smash the red boulder there with the Hammer. Once it's smashed, it will be gone for good.

GREAT FAIRY FOUNTAIN
After entering the Crater from Goron City, cross the unbroken bridge. Navi will fly to two boulders, which should be smashed with the Hammer. Enter and play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol, and the Great Fairy of Wisdom will double the length of your Magic Meter.
