Gold Skulltula
|Ocarina of Time| |Home Page|
The Skulltula family of Kakariko Village have been cursed to live as spiders due to their greed. The source of the curse, the 'Spiders of the Curse' or the Gold Skulltula, must be completely eradicated if the five youths and middle-aged father of the family are to be restored to humans. There are a total of 100 Gold Skulltula located throughout Hyrule, and for every 10 destroyed one youth will be released from the curse and give you a reward. In order of receivership, these rewards are:
Adult's Wallet: Allows you to carry upto 200 Rupees.
Stone of Agony: If a hidden grotto is within Bombing range or able to be revealed with the Song of Storms, the controller will vibrate when you have this in your posession. Note the Stone is useless without a Rumble Pak.
Giant's Wallet: You can carry upto 500 Rupees. This is the largest wallet Link can have.
Bombchus: Gain 10 Bombchus
Piece of Heart: Self-explanatory!
After all of the youths are freed, the father of the Skulltula family will say you've gone above and beyond the call of duty and that you can call off the hunt. However, locate the remaining 50 Gold Skulltula and he'll give you 200 Rupees. Exit the house and re-enter to easily max-out your Rupees, as you can come back for this cash whenever you want!!
It is not the death of the Gold Skulltula which is important, but the recovery of the tokens they leave behind. Because of this, certain items are needed to gain the tokens. Here are some hints on how to find the Gold Skulltula:
-
Listen for their scratching sound.
-
Hunt at night, in grottoes and in both the overworld and underworld.
-
Some areas with Gold Skulltula can only be accessed with the Scarecrow's Song.
-
Skulltula love dark out-of-the-way areas, such as inside crates or atop trees.
-
They say that the small holes in the ground make perfect breeding ground for bugs.
If you're at the end of your rope, here are the locations of all 100 Gold Skulltula within Hyrule.
KEY
-
This type of bullet denotes the Skulltula can be found by Link regardless of his age.
-
These Gold Skulltula can only be found by Young Link.
-
Only Adult Link can find these Gold Skulltula.
-
Skulltula with an orange bullet can only be found at night.
If there's a * mark after the location of the Piece of Heart, it means I found it on my own. If there's a + mark, it means I located it but didn't know how to reach it, or reached the area but didn't know what was hidden there.
THE LOST WOODS
Kokiri Forest
-
Requires some bottled Bugs. Tip the bottle into the soft soil patch near the Kokiri Shop.
-
Look behind the House of the Know-It-All Brothers.
-
Requires the Hookshot. Behind the House of Twins.*
The Lost Woods-
Requires some bottled Bugs. Enter the Woods from Kokiri Forest and take the first two lefts to come to a soft soil patch.
-
Requires a Bottle of Bugs. Enter from Kokiri Forest and take the following route: right, left, right, left and left again. Tip the contents of the bottle onto the soft soil patch near the Business Scrub.
-
Requires a Magic Bean, which should be planted at the above soft soil patch. Ride the Magic Plant to a hidden platform with this Skulltula.
Sacred Forest Meadow-
Requires the Hookshot. Climb to the top of the maze, and near the final platform before the Giant Moblin is a Skulltula on the east wall.
Inside the Deku Tree-
In the same room as the Compass, step on the switch and jump towards a hidden niche in the left wall.*
-
Requires a projectile weapon. On the vines which lead from level B1 to level 1F.*
-
Requires a projectile weapon. On the drainage grille in the first room of level B1.*
-
Requires the Boomerang and a Bomb. After going through the crawlspace on level B1, there will be a weak wall in the dry room. Bomb it and you'll locate the Skulltula on the wall.*
Forest Temple-
Requires the Hookshot. In the very first room, climb up the vines and stand on the platform. You can now use the Hookshot to kill the Skulltula and recover the token.*
-
In the main room where the Poe Sisters steal the multi-coloured flames, there is a Skulltula on a wall near the north door.*
-
Requires the Hookshot or the Longshot. In one of the rooms with a stream, there's a stone arch with some hearts above it. If you have the Longshot, you can just line up your sights and fire, but if you have the Hookshot follow these directions:
After getting the Boss Key, you re-enter this room on a high ledge. From this ledge, you'll be able to jump on top of the stone arch and grab the hearts. After grabbing the hearts, the Skulltula will be within range. Just don't fall down!! -
Requires the Hookshot. In the other room with a stream in it, there's a chest on a seemingly inaccessable ledge. On the wall near that ledge is a Skulltula. There are three ways you can get it: one, stand on the path right next to the stream and grapple the chest, and from here you can open the chest and get the Skulltula.
Method two requires the Scarecrow's Song. Work your way to the checkered room with the collapsing roof. Instead of braving the collapsing roof, go down the narrow passage and you'll find yourself above the platform. Play the Scarecrow's Song for a way back to the door, and you can take it from there. The third method involves simply using the Longshot.* -
Guess what? Requires the Hookshot!! In the revolving room, there is one section with a Giant Skulltula and a chest. This room also has a Gold Skulltula on the wall; retrieve the token with the Hookshot.*
HYRULE FIELD-
Requires the Boomerang or Hookshot. West of the entrance to Kakariko Village is a lone tree with a hidden grotto around its base, which can be revealed with a Bomb. In the grotto is the Skulltula.
-
Requires fire magic, Bombs and the Boomerang or Hookshot. To access this grotto, you need to have destroyed the red boulder within the circle of small stones near the entrance to Gerudo Valley. Reveal the hidden grotto now with a Bomb. Burn away the cobwebs and use your weapon to KO the Skulltula and retrieve his token.
HYRULE TOWN-
Enter the guardhouse and use a Rolling Attack on the crates near the guard.
HYRULE CASTLE-
When you first enter the castle grounds from Hyrule Town Market, use a Rolling Attack to knock a Skulltula from the first tree you see.
-
Requires the Song of Storms, Bombs and the Boomerang. Near the moat is a hidden grotto near the base of the tree, revealed with the Song of Storms. Enter the grotto, Bomb the weak walls and use the Boomerang to recover the token.
GANON'S CASTLE-
Requires the Hookshot. Look behind the stone arch.*
LON LON RANCH-
Use a Rolling Attack to knock the Skulltula from the tree which is near the ranchers' house.
-
Requires the Boomerang. Look on the second storey of the ranchers' house.*
-
Built into the corral's fence is a small shed. On the outside of this shed is the Skulltula.*
-
Requires the Boomerang. Along the south perimeter, west of the tower, is a Gold Skulltula.
KAKARIKO VILLAGE
Village Centre-
Use a Rolling Attack on the tree near where the Chief Carpenter's Son sits.
-
Requires the Slingshot. Look on the ladder atop the lookout tower; climb the ladder to reach the token.*
-
Behind the House of Skulltula.*
-
Look along the pile of bricks at the house under construction (becomes Shooting Gallery in the future).*
-
Check along the side of the little kid's house (becomes Bazaar in the future).*
-
Requires the Longshot. Work your way to the roof of Impa's house by grappling the tiles. The Skulltula is on the cliff.
Graveyard-
Requires a Bottle with some Bugs in it. Tip the contents of the Bottle onto the soft soil patch in the bottom-left corner of the Graveyard.
-
Requires the Boomerang. Look along the right cliff, the cliff closest to Dampé's hut.*
Bottom of the Well-
Requires the Boomerang. In the centre of the large main room, go through the west locked door. Watch out for the flying pots and Deku Baba as you locate this Skulltula.*
-
Requires the Boomerang. Proceed to the centre of the large main room and go through the east locked door. Walk around the right edge of the pit, where there are invisible platforms, to get the Skulltula within sight.+
-
It's a good idea to have the Lens of Truth for this one. Go through the crawlspace located in the north-east corner of the main large room. Proceed through the passages and you'll come to a caged-in area with a Like Like, and a Gold Skulltula on the wall.*
Shadow Temple-
In the section where you throw a Bomb Flower into a stationary flaming skull to get a key, there is a Skulltula behind the skull.
-
Requires the Hookshot. Proceed to the section with the guillutines, and to the platform where you go toe-to-toe with a Stalfos Knight. After defeating him, don't jump to the elevator platform on chains but in the opposite direction, where there are invisible platforms. You'll now come to a room with an invisible rotating blade. KO all the hostiles (bats and a Like Like) to make the grate open and allow access to the Skulltula.
-
Proceed to the chamber with the two sets of falling spikes, where you use a block to get past them. Inside the first caged-in area on the left is a Skulltula.*
-
Requires the Longshot, and the Scarecrow's Song if you want. Before playing Zelda's Lullaby to make the ship move, stand on the port bow and look towards the platform. You'll just be able to reach the Skulltula, but summon Pierre to reach the platform for a better chance of hitting the Skulltula. You'll get some recovery hearts, too.+
-
Requires the Hookshot. After the ship sinks, you have to enter a maze which is connected to three different rooms. One of these rooms has a Small Key, another the Boss Key, and the third has three rotating flaming skulls. Look behind the skulls to reach the Skulltula.
DEATH MOUNTAIN
Death Mountain Trail-
Requires a Bomb and the Boomerang or Hookshot. After entering the trail from Kakariko Village, look along the right side for a weak wall before you pass the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern. Once you have cleared the path, the Skulltula will be within sight.*
-
Requires a Bottle with some Bugs. After clearing the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern, you'll be able to let the bugs work their way to the soft soil patch.
-
Requires the Hammer. Remember where the Bomb Flower was, the one you used to blow open Dodongo's Cavern? Well, there's a red rock there, where the Skulltula hides. Shatter the rock to clear your access to the token.+
-
Requires the Hammer, and preferably the Fire Medallion. Remember the vertical cliff you climb, just before the entrance to Death Mountain's Crater? Well, just before you climb the cliff is a series of red rocks, where without the Fire Medallion volcanic bombs rain from above. Shatter the rock closest to the verticle cliff to reveal the Skulltula.
Goron City-
Requires Bombs, and plenty of them!! Work your way to the back of the boulder maze, then use a Rolling Attack on the crate.
-
Requires the Hookshot. Look underneath the central platform suspended by ropes.*
Death Mountain Crater-
Enter the Crater from Death Mountain Trail, and there'll be a crate on your left. Use a Rolling Attack to bring the Skulltula out of hiding.
-
Requires the Bolero of Fire and some Bugs. Use the Bolero to warp to the crater, where you can access a soft soil patch. You can now flush the Skulltula out of hiding with the bugs.
Dodongo's Cavern-
From the first room, go through the south-east passage. There's a weak wall here which can be destroyed with a Bomb, the Hammer or a Dondongo Larva's exploding corpse. Enter here and on the back wall is a Skulltula.*
-
Requires the Scarecrow's Song and the Hookshot. In the same room as above, there is a Gold Skulltula on a seemingly inaccessable platform. Use the Scarecrow's Song to summon Pierre and work your way to the platform, where you can make short work of the Skulltula.+
-
Requires a projectile weapon. In the room on 2F connected to 1F by the stairway pillar which you bomb, there are some vines opposite the stairway pillar. Use a projectile weapon to take out the Gold Skulltula, but if you don't have the Boomerang or Hookshot you'll have to climb up to collect the token. If this is the case, KO the neighbouring Skullwalltula.*
-
After going through the Giant Dodongo Head, you must go through a series of rooms which form a loop so you can push a block onto a switch. At the last of these rooms before you reach the block, there is a weak wall. Bomb the wall or smash it with the Hammer, then look behind the Armos Knight.*
-
Requires the Boomerang or Hookshot, to have activated the switch on the second floor of the first room, and make sure the stairway pillar hasn't been bombed since you last entered. In the first room, one of the pillars rises up high enough for access to the second floor. Now work your way to the switchblade maze, climbing up the ladder without the block underneath it. You'll now be in the stairway pillar room, but it's still suspended in the air. Go to the left side, where you can climb up some vines and to a hidden alcove where a Skulltula waits. Jeez, this one is annoying, isn't it?
Fire Temple-
Requires the Song of Time and the Hookshot. From the start of the temple, go into the right door and then work your way to the left of this lava room. Use the Song of Time to access a door just above here, then make your way through the flying tiles and Like Like to reach the Skulltula.*
-
Requires a Bomb and the Hookshot. At the bottom level of the boulder maze, there is a point were Link walks under an overhanging part of the roof, along the room's perimeter, but there doesn't appear to be anything there. However, there is a weak wall, behind which is a Gold Skulltula, which should be Bombed.*
-
Requires the Scarecrow's Song and the Longshot. Climb to the top of the boulder maze, and near the door Navi flies up to a platform and turns green. Play the Scarecrow's Song and grapple Pierre to reach the platform, then turn around and get onto the elevator platform to reach the next floor. Continue and you'll come to a Skulltula on some chainwire.
-
Follow the same path as above, but keep climbing until you come to a room which has a giant hole to the lower floor in the centre. Look behind the door, on the walls of the pit, for the Skulltula.
-
Requires the Hookshot. In the room before the Boss Key, there are flying tiles and a Like Like. Behind the Like Like is the Skulltula.
ZORA'S DOMAIN
Zora's River-
Use a Rolling Attack on the first tree you encounter after approaching the river from Hyrule Field.
-
Requires a projectile weapon. Not far from the Sleepless Waterfall is a ladder leading down to the knee-deep water. Stand near this ladder and fire away when the Skulltula appears.*
-
Requires the Hookshot. Climb to the top of the cliffs, atop one is a hidden grotto which is not hidden by a boulder. If you stand on the edge of this cliff, you'll be able to reach a Skulltula.
-
Requires the Longshot. Towards the far side of the bridge, high on the side of the wall, is a Skulltula.
Zora's Domain-
Requires the Hookshot. Climb to the top of the waterfall then look to the left.
Zora's Fountain-
See the lone tree on the island in the corner? Use a Rolling Attack on it to knock the Skulltula from its perch.
-
Requires the Boomerang. There's a fallen tree near the entrance where you can walk over along the wall.*
-
Requires the Silver Gauntlets, the Hammer or Bombs and the Hookshot. Remember the island where you knocked the Gold Skulltula out of the tree? On that same island is a silver boulder which should be tossed away, and the weak ground there obliterated. Follow the passage, being wary of invisible Giant Skulltula. Your reward for exploration is a Gold Skulltula.
Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly-
Requires a projectile weapon. Carry Princess Ruto through the passage to the point where you step on a switch to raise the water level briefly. Destroy the Skulltula with the water level low, then raise the water level to recover the token.*
-
Requires the Boomerang. In the room where you first meet Princess Ruto, return after forcing away the Red Slimy Thing. Fall down the hole the Red Thing protected, and you'll be able to get within Boomerang Range of this Skulltula.*
-
Same place as above, except just a little further away. You can kill him right after getting the above one, and recover the token, without moving.*
-
In the room just before the Boss, there is a Skulltula on one side of the wall you climb up to activate the final switch.
Ice Cavern-
Requires the Hookshot. In the room with the rotating ice blades, there are some stalagmites protecting a Silver Rupee. Look above the Rupee for the Skulltula.*
-
Requires the Hookshot. In the same room as the Compass, there is a Gold Skulltula on the pillar opposite the Compass.*
-
Requires the Hookshot. In the room with the ice block puzzle, there is a Skulltula on one of the walls; it's on the same wing as the entrance door.*
LAKE HYLIA
Hylia Lakeside-
Requires some bottled Bugs, which should be tipped into the soft soil patch near the Lakeside Lab.
-
On the smaller island which is not connected to any bridges, there is a Skulltula on one of the posts.*
-
Requires the Boomerang. Walk out on the bridge near the Lakeside Lab and look on the back wall.*
-
Requires the Iron Boots, the Hookshot, and preferably the Zora Tunic. Use the Iron Boots to walk along the bottom of the pool in the Lakeside Lab. Use a Rolling Attack to shatter the crate at the bottom and reveal the Skulltula, and the Hookshot to send it packing.
-
Requires the Longshot. On the large island, where the Water Temple is built into, there's a tall dead tree. Use the Longshot to grapple the trunk just above the branch, so you can see the very top of the tree and see this hard-to-find Skulltula.
Water Temple-
Requires the Longshot. Work your way to the summit of the room where you raise the water level half-way; the Skulltula is on the wall.+
-
Requires the Flame Spin, Bombs and Hookshot. Drain the water level to the very bottom then go left and into the first passageway. Bomb the weak floor and continue until you come to the Crystal Switch behind a grille. Use the Flame Spin to open the grille and the Hookshot to get rid of the Skulltula.
-
Requires the Longshot. In the room where you play leapfrog on the moving platforms to get to the top of the waterfall, there is a Skulltula within easy reach on the wall.+
-
Requires the Iron Boots, Zora Tunic and Longshot. Work your way to the underground river with the whirlpools. There's a Skulltula on the wall: use the Iron Boots to stabilize your position then use the Longshot.
-
Requires the Iron Boots and the Longshot. Along the path to the Boss Key you must sink down below a waterfall where boulders come rolling. After sinking down, you can look back up and safely get the Gold Skulltula.
GERUDO VALLEY-
Requires some Bugs in a Bottle. Tip them into the soft soil patch located on the platform down near the main river.
-
Requires the Boomerang. While walking along the plank over the small pond, look towards the waterfall.*

Requires the Hookshot. Work your way through the Thieves' Hideout and come to the rear of the Fortress. You'll now be able to access the Skulltula on the wall.
-
Requires the Gerudo's Card and the Hookshot. Look on one of the lollipop targets at the Horseback Archery Range.
HAUNTED WASTELAND
Wasteland-
Traverse the wasteland until you reach the stone mesa where you meet the Phantom Guide. Instead of climbing up to meet the guide, there's a hidden passage where you can climb down where, among other things, you'll find this Skulltula.
Desert Colossus-
Requires the Requiem of Spirit and some Bugs. Warp to the Colossus and, on the paving at the entrance to the Spirit Temple, there is some soft soil.
-
Requires the Hookshot. Near the dried-up lake there are some palm trees, atop which is a Skulltula. Use the Hookshot to send him packing.
-
Requires a Magic Bean. Plant the Bean and return to the future, and ride the plant to the top of the last platform in the series.
Spirit Temple-
Requires the Boomerang. Go through the first crawlspace, then go through the right door. Look on the chainwire, opposite the entrance.*

Requires the Boomerang. After going through the room where you push the Sun Switch on a block into light, turn around and look above the door you exited by.*
-
Requires the Boomerang. After going through the second crawlspace and the locked door, climb the wall and turn around. You can now take out this Skulltula.*
-
Requires the Song of Time. Work your way to the room with the Silver Rupees and boulders. In one alcove is a Time Block; teleport the block and you'll be able to reach it easily.*
-
Requires the Scarecrow's Song and the Longshot. Work your way to the main room with the large statue. From the bottom of the statue, go up the climbable wall and up the stairs you took as Young Link. When you reach the top of the stairs, look in the direction of the statue. Play the Scarecrow's Song and you'll be able to reach a hidden platform with a Gold Skulltula.
