...Bill Hicks is dead now, he died of pancreatic cancer on February 26, 1994. I wouldn't be surprised if you never heard of him, during his life he never received the popularity he so richly deserved. His in-your-face style wasn't appreciated in a time when the vapid observational humor of Jerry Seinfeld, or the uninspired 'Hillbilly' humor of Jeff Foxworthy dominated Stand-Up, and later Television. You may not agree with all his ideas or ideals expressed on these CD's, but I don't think you can deny how funny he was. Of course, comedy is very subjective, so maybe you can. Anyway, if you're at a music store, stop by the Humor section and try to find one of his CD's and buy it, I'm pretty sure you'll be glad you did.
...A departure from comedies this time, The Manchurian Candidate is one of the best films ever made, definitely one of the ten best in my book. It also has one of the best scenes in the history of cinema, the dream sequences. Incredible performances by Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh, Angela Lansbury, and Believe-it-or-not, Frank Sinatra isn't too shabby either. Directed by John Frankenheimer, what more proof do you want? I don't want to give anything away if you haven't seen it, so just go out and rent it already! If you just happened to have watched The Manchurian Candidate yesterday, I'd suggest you rent Local Hero, it has nothing in common with Manchurian Candidate, but it is a very fun quirky movie. I know most times when someone says a film is quirky it means bad, but not in this case.
