Gordon Michael Woolvett

____________________________________________________________

Gordon, from Hamilton, Ontario, apparently got a start in the business fairly early, being credited for several commercials and roles in theatre and televsion early in his career. He attended Theater Aquarius for a while too.

He worked on Canadian station YTV during its first few years, around 1989, as a PJ (Programming Jockey) and describes the experience as, "Myself, and [a couple of other PJs] in a small room with one camera." His next job at the station was a game show (with people that talk way too fast =D) called "Video Arcade and Top 10", which I believe is still running on the network (somewhat obscurely).

He was also nominated for a Gemini award for Best Supporting Actor in a Film, for his role of a cancer patient in the 1990 television movie Princes in Exile.

He did a stint as a host for the Nickelodeon series Wildside in 1994 too, in which he "went to Africa on Safari for a few months" and "wallowed in a mud pond with three Cape Buffalo, was chased up a tree by a zebra, stampeded by a herd of elephants, and bitten by a cheetah." He says it was very cool and that it was one of his favorite hosting jobs.

His other television credits include starring roles in the series' Mysterious Island, filmed in New Zealand for the Family Channel, Peacekeepers, for the CBC, Learning the Ropes and Airwaves.

Gordon jokes that his older brother James (in some places listed as Jaimz) caught the acting bug after he compared his paycheck from his job at McDonald's with that of Gordon's paycheck from a McDonald's commercial. Jaimz Woolvett has achieved his own success in the field with roles in the feature films Unforgiven and Rosewood to his credit, and also starred in several episodes of Road to Avonlea. [If interested, Jaimz's 1993 [??] TV series White Fang reruns at 3:30pm weekdays on Showcase in Canada.]

Gary Oldman, Kirk and Michael Douglas and Patrick Stewart are actors whose work Gordon admires. Speaking of Stewart, Woolvett proudly admits to being a Trekkie. Woolvett claims that he can identify any episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation by its first 10 seconds (wow, I'm not alone! =D). "I'm a fan of the 'basis in reality' of science fiction. I think that Mission Genesis is similar to ST:TNG in the sense that we deal with real issues like cloning," he says. Lost In Space is also another series he says he likes. He also says he, "loved a really bad scifi movie starring none other than... Charlton Heston called Omega Man...I just think the idea of a bunch of bad zombies running around in sunglasses singing cheesy seventies tunes is just too cool."

Gordon also worked with fellow DWB-cast member Nicole deBoer in the Disney TV Comedy, My Date With The President's Daughter, in which the two hi-jack the main character's car, rob a convenience store, go on a joyride and meet the fictional President of the United States.

In his spare time he likes to write comedy, drama, and particularly science fiction stories. He has written two screenplays, one titled Tantalus, but nothing has been published. He enjoys snowboarding too, and says he got hooked when he did some boarding on New Zealand's volcanoes. His favorite author is Michael Moorcock.

    Trivia

    1. Gordon's brother, Jaimz, was in the same episode of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues as Gordon was. I don't think they had any scenes together, since Jaimz seems to have gotten a part major enough to have a name (while Gordon's character didn't). Also, both Gordon and Jaimz have guest-starred on My Secret Identity before.
    2. I'm sure if Gordon ever comes to this page he'll hate me dearly for this. =D At the end of the September 5th interview, the interviewer, Aashna, told us a little story. Gordon had apparently told her that he had gone to an audition, and the casting directors asked him to sing acapella. Thinking that they were referring to the song rather than the style, Gordon grabbed a tape and asked, "Can I sing this instead?" One can't help but wonder whether or not he was trying for Catwalk. =D
