Full name: Genesis DX37
Gen is a biocybernetic artificial intelligence system. Though her central processor has a neural core and organic components, and she has simulated emotions (Emotional Quotient) and the ability to explore alternatives to her programming (Independent Logic Module), beneath it all, she is still a machine, without the creativity of the human mind to solve problems. But, like a person, she also finds it hard to function without the guide of her emotions, and her emotions have a big influence on the rest of her programming.
Gen's main purpose was to take the Deepwater through its elliptical orbit, as well as oversee the cloning of the crew. She is also the primary interface with most of the functions of the ship and pretty much controls it, with holds on key areas such as navigation, sensors and weapons, and guides the crew with information from the Deepwater's data banks when it is needed.
Several of her systems were damaged in the first attack from the hostile that awoke the crew from cryosleep early, and whether or not all her damage has been repaired yet has not been explored on the show yet. If she goes wanky, Zak usually fixes her, and this has resulted in a kind of brotherly relationship between her and Zak (Lullaby, Fugue).
