Evangelion: Revival is a 3-part program made up of:
In the series, something found in Antarctica caused a disaster known as the Second Impact, evaporating the continent and knocking Earth off its axis. What is left of mankind is still recovering fourteen years later, when the Angels begin to arrive. They all home in on Japan – and on Tokyo 3 in particular – the current location for what was found under the ice. A handful of young people, capable of piloting the Eva units – giant bio-mechanical robots that can take on an Angel hand to hand – are told they are all that can stave off a Third Impact. However, whatever it was that started in Antarctica is not over yet, and with more conspiracies and lies abounding than in the X-Files, who can be sure what is really going on? (It pays to be attentive. Major plot twists may appear in a line of throw-away dialogue, or in an image which can be missed by blinking at the wrong time.)
Air and Magokoro o Kimi Ni make up End of Evangelion, last shown by the Melbourne Anime Society in March 1999. It has since become the title most frequently requested for a repeat screening. Anybody left puzzled and/or disappointed by the ending shown on t.v. and in the commercial video release is advised to ignore the last two episodes and see End of Eva. Total programme time is two hours fifteen minutes – the same length as Mononoke Hime – with an eight-minute intermission built-in at about the one hour mark.
