The Typhoon class, based up on the Excelsior "The Great Experiment" class starship, it packs more firepower in less space. Accomodations are a bit cramped to accomidate the 4 torpedo tubes in the front of the saucer, flanked by a pair of phaser banks. Two hanger bays are located under the impulse deck, while warp field enhancers loom above it. The saucer has been chopped up to lessen the overall mass of the ship, giving it much more speed in warp and impulse then the Excelsior. The navigational deflector has been mounted just above the nacelle pylon attachment. Designed for swift combat, it lacks the shielding of its counterparts. A minor trade-off for weapon power. |
U.S.S. Typhoon on trial runs testing the soundness of it's spaceframe. Note finished painting has not been done, and warp stress paint has been applied to possible weak points. |
Model Notes: I made this ship after fooling around with the parts, just be placing the completed engine/pylon assembly on the dorsal I saw the possibilities. I did find the back edges of the saucer in the way so I removed them. After bit more hacking I got the saucer looking how I wanted it. I found a pair of old cruise missles and placed them atop the cut off plyon tips, they looked good there so I figured they could be some kind of warp enhancer since they resembled the older warp drives. A finished model called the "Red October" is to be done with red highlights instead of the usual blues. |
