Historical Development:
When the first rumors of Transwarp were heard it immediately inspired a whole range of new ship designs, among them the Patton Class fast frigate. Although Transwarp turned out to be a bust, the Patton was already ordered. Only the prototype was abuilt and put inot service using the latest of the linear warp engine designs, all the rest of the class were canceled becasue of the Transwarp program failure. The Patton classes fate seemed dead, until Wolf 359. The Starfleet Task Force began looking for a small, fast and agile ship, something to avoid the Borg weapons. They ha[[ened upon the original design specs for the PPatton and immediately modified it with updated technology.
Design Information:
The Patton is based on the Excelsior class but on a much smaller scale. The size difference allows for a much faster ship overall. Unlike ti's big brother the Patton has a small shuttle bay but an oversized Impulse engine. The most noticeable differences between the prototype and the production are the phaser collimators and the engine nacelles.
