1987 KITT from Knight Rider
The car was sold back in December of 2000.
I am not trying to be rude, but i am not answering anymore e-mails about the car. I have had about 10 per day asking me stupid shit. Do you see any t-tops in the pictures of the car? NO, that because there are none, so dont ask in the e-mail. I am also not an auto transporter so dont ask if i know how much it would cost to ship the car to Timbucktu. I tried to be complete as possible on this websight describing everything about the car.
KITT is based on a 1987 Pontiac firebird. It has a regular title and is registered as a 1987 pontiac. The title is NOT a salvage title. It has a 2.8 L v6 engine which runs very strong. The transmission is automatic w/ OD. I just performed a major maintenance on the engine in which I changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, oil, air filter, and flushed radiator. The maintenance was always performed at regular intervals and I only used synthetic oil. The V6 engine does not leak oil, sputter, stall or overheat.
There are a great many new parts on the car including: gas tank, brakes, steering column, rear hatch, radiator, o2 sensor, map sensor and many more. The rims are chrome Crager SST. It has a pioneer cassette stereo and a craig 6 disc CD changer located where the seat behind the driver used to be.(I still have the seat).
The cd changer is in a custom cabinet that disconnects with one wire incase you want to remove it in a bad neighborhood. I have a lot of spare interior & exterior parts including seats, plastic panels, dash gage cluster & lights. All of these go with the car.
I have two scanner light bars for the front of the car; one is red, the other amber. In some states, such as NJ, it is illegal to have red lights on the front of the car. The light bar (scanner light) scrolling speed is adjustable from very slow to very fast. It is controlled from the inside via a control knob in a custom housing. This is labeled “A” in the picture. There is 8 LEDs that light up in the inside to correspond to the lights on the outside. This allows you to see how fast the lights are moving back and forth. The LEDs are hidden behind smoked plexiglass, so when the unit is off you can not see them.
A long time ago, I had the entire custom Knight Rider dash, but this was stolen. When I put a regular dash board back in the car, the electronic odometer was replaced with an original style gage. The odometer in the car now reads 87,000 miles, but because I had another dash in the car, the true mileage is unknown. There are turn signals & two sets of fog lights under the nose. The one set of fog lights come on with the parking lights, the other set is wired to a switch on the dash. It has air conditioning, but it is not charged.
The car has no headliner, a ripped drivers seat and a ding in the driver’s side rear quarter panel. It has no muffler. This car is my daily driver. I used to spend at least 10 hours a week , cleaning, customizing and keeping it in tip-top shape. After the car was stolen I lost interest in it. Now I only perform the regular maintenance to keep it running well. This is a great project car which could be restored into excellent condition with very little work. A KITT front end cost $1000 and it does not include the scanner bar or fog lights.
The car is sold as-is. You are responsible for all shipping charges if you have the car shipped. The car should have no problem driving anywhere in the USA if you want to drive it home. If you already have a firebird and just need the KITT accessories, I will remove the Knight Rider front end and inside accessories and only ship those to you. However , you still need to pay for the ENTIRE car.
