Mulled Wine


  • 3 1/8 cup dry red wine, such as Merlot
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar, or to taste (My taste and Maroki's taste say at least a whole cup)
  • 1 pinch ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Zest from 2 whole lemons
  • Zest from 2 whole oranges
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (broken)
  • Estimated cooking time: 25 Min

    In a saucepan, combine wine, water, sugar, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, orange and lemon peel. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Simmer for 20 minutes.
