Virginia entered the 8th grade following the summer
the family moved to Plymouth, NC. She transferred
to Whiteville and stayed with Kate and Dr. Green
until her graduation in 1944 {there were only 11 grades}.
She attended Eastern Carolina Teachers' College for
one year taking a business course. She remember there
were insufficient typewriters and she would have to wait
hours for access. A striking picture of Virginia was
taken while taking part in a play at ECTC.
Virginia returned to Plymouth. She met Vince at a dance
at Cherry Point where Vince was stationed at the time.
Vince would fly his B-29 over the house while on training
missions and waggle his wings. Father, Eli, would
comment, "Here is that damn fool again!"
After their children were grown, Virginia and Vince moved
to Winchester, VA. They would spend winters in a mobile
home park in Tampa. Vince died in Tampa. He is missed
by all. Virginia continues to spend winters in Tampa.
