Lou was one of fourteen children. When Lou died in childbirth, her sister, Emma Mae and her husband, welcomed Lou's daugher, Enola Gaye, into their home.

Gleves and Lou's only known child is Enola Gaye (5-Mar-1946) who married James Roberts Withheld.
