Military

The Military guild developed from the family which was specifically charged with controlling animal pests native to Kimberley. Tradition has ensured that the land school of the military guild are expert trackers and survivalists. The other main schools, sea, air and space developed along with population and technological advancement.

Given that guilds so effectively manage conflict resolution, there has never been a clan war, and there is little domestic strife. Despite this Golcondans are extremely efficient in the art of war. Military AGMs are always held in isolated locations, occasionally off-world. These are preceded by a public display of current technology, followed by private war games where the different clans' Military guilds are ranked. Not all military affairs are so mundane. Occasional threats caused by stellar bodies with erratic orbits have been eliminated.

Since the Military has faced no external threats in living memory, there capacity to deal with such is uncertain. They do however have a sizable research budget which has produced valuable spinnoffs for the general public, the most notable recent example being in climate control with the stormbreaker satellite. The Military vehemently deny that inappropriate use of these satellites could result in the vaporisation of a good sized city.

Some elements of the Golconda Space Fleet

Battleships

The Phoebus is eight hundred and twenty two metres long, blood red in colour and bristles with antennae and other projections which give her the appearance of a pincushion. Extending from the round central body are six radially arranged, cone shaped arms, each of which houses massive deflector arrays and energy projectors in their extremities. Offensive armaments are not readily apparent, though the vessel looked menacing enough. The hull was made of extremely tough neutronium cerametal, punctuated with numerous openings, viewports and insignia. On the upper portion of the central ‘pincushion’, the bridge personnel could be seen through a clear dome some forty metres in diameter. The dome was made of transparent cerametal, as tough as the rest of the ship, and could be made opaque at the stroke of a touchpad.

Heavy Cruisers

The heavy cruisers, the Kimberley, Phoenix Viridis, Winter and Seawind normally show the colour of their clan. The surface markings of all Golconda vessels can be altered almost instantaneously, depending on the nature of the action they are involved in. The cruisers, each some six hundred metres long are cigar shaped. Under close scrutiny the exterior of the cruisers seems to shimmer, making it impossible to focus on any surface details.
