Become part of the "Legends, Lore & Laughter" at the 23nd Annual New York Renaissance Faire.
Merth and merriment are the orders of the day. Paint thy countenance always with a smile
and give forth with heartfelt Huzzahs when occasion doth inspire thee.
Let not thy neighbor go unsaluted, but fill thy heart with the song of goodwill and
hospitality.
Refresh thine ears with music, thy legs with with dance, and thy lungs with laughter.
Be remembered: Litter breadeth plague. Sully not the ground upon which our Queen Herself
may stand.
Men shall abide by the codes of Chivalry: properly escort their women, attend their every
need, worship them with words of love, and lavish them with gifts.
Women shall indulge their men's natural proclivities by attending with them a Joust,
a Falconry display, and one, and only one, performance by Belly Dancers and Singing Wenches.
On this glorious day, Children may be both seen and heard. Parents shall allow them to
covort freely at the Maypole Dances, whisper with wonderin the Fairie Kingdom, and exhort
them to shout "God Save The Queen" at the Knighting Ceremony or other Royal appointments.
Nary one faire goer may depart the Shire save they hath spurned the Sheriff, pledged
allegiance to Robin Hood, blessed the Queen, and felt their own spirit lifted as in a
pleasant dream !
Good people, a mighty Armada sent by the King of Spain is e'en now sailing toward these shores intent
upon the subjugation of our people. We do say unto ye, "Be not afraid!" for we have come to the quiet
village of Sterling on this Faire Day to hold council of war.
We have selected for the defense of the realm the following individuals: Sir Francis Drake and the
pirate Grace O'Malley shall conduct the naval response to the Spanish threat, whilst Robin Hood and
the Sheriff of Nottingham shall have charge of the protection of this shire and its peoples.
We enjoin ye never to despair of our success, and encourage ye to give heart to our soldiers and
sailors by cheering them on with loud "Huzzahs!". All who are sound of wind and limb and have the
courage to meet adversity are requested to present themselves for recruitment into our forces.
Above all, let not the low'ering clouds of war dampen our spirits or hamper our merriment at this
magnificent Faire. Let us outface the enemy by drinking with pleasure, eating with gusto and
enjoying the excellent wares proffered by the fine merchants and craftsmen.
Sing with lusty voices and dance with light feet- cavort, gambol and frolic in defiance of the
Spanish threat! Be bold, be brave, be Englishmen all! And proud shall I be to name myself thy
humble sovereign.
The Queen's Progress |
The Tales of Robin Hood |
The threat of the Spanish Armada darkens the day, but Queen Elizabeth will not let it destroy the spirit of her subjects. Nay, She has come to Sterling to rally her people. But can the Queen's Edict cause such age-old enemies as the Sheriff of Notingham and Robin Hood to work together? Will the rivalry of Sir Francis Drake and the Pirate Queen, Grace O'Malley sink England's fleet before they e'en put to sea? England expects every man to do his duty! | It is the eve of war and an uneasy truce exists between Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham. They have been charged by the Queen to joinly defend Sterling Shire against the approaching Spanish, but can e'en war put an end to their fued? Will either be alive when the Spanish arrive? War makes for strange bedfellows indeed! |
