Episode 3: The Leptam System

Part 2: Contacts and Arexal Deenis Appears

GM's Note: The plot thickens in this episode...you'll see.

Koryo is taken to an Imperial prison where he spends the night thinking about what has occurred, and what he has gotten himself into. In the morning, he hears a strange sound...like a throat being slit. Something he heard many times as an Imperial Commando. Looking out his cell door, he sees a human woman in bounty hunter garb. Behind her strolls in a powerful-looking wookie and a man in dark clothes dotted with surveillance equipment. The woman lets Koryo out of his cell and introduces herself as Arexal Deenis, an old friend of Adar Daala's. The wookie is Graxaad, her confidante and mechanic. The man is Estalan Sunrider, who had met up with Deenis after hearing of Daala's capture on the news at the main starport. Deenis tells her story to Dynasty and Sunrider. Deenis and Graxaad had been doing freelance bounties with Leptam as their base of operations. They did this for three months before the Empire started to take especial interest in the Leptam system. In the last week, New Republic Intelligence began to show up in large amounts. Arexal questions Dynasty and Sunrider as to why this is, but Dynasty is clueless, and Sunrider's spy operations were focused on the Core Worlds.

Koryo explains the message and request for a contact to Arexal. Arexal wants to take advantage of the situation to gain information. She continues to explain that she has formed the Leptam Republican Army to counteract the Empire in the region, as they are a threat to her business here. She asks the pair to assist her in gaining some information and to help stop the Empire. In exchange, she will pay each of the characters 5,000 credits and help them rescue Daala from an Imperial Hospital. The pair reluctantly agree. She claims to be Daala's friend, but they didn't care who it was, as long as they had much needed help to rescue Adar. They find out that adar is being kept on a secure level of the Leptami Imperial; Medical facility. They disguise themselves in doctors uniforms and proceed to the facility. Splitting up on the floor, they find a drug storage facility and get some drugs in a hypospray dispenser. They enter Adar's room and put the guards to sleep with the drugs. Unable to convince the medical droid that they are doctors, they deactivate him. He is too much of a danger to the operation. They then realize, that none of them knows how to correctly operate a bacta tank! Daala isn't completely healed, and pressing the wrong buttons could kill him!

After some quick thinking, the group figures out how to work the Bacta tank and release Adar, who is still weak. They use a medpack to heal him completely and prepare for the meeting at Travnin Circle. Everyone but Graxaad goes. At the selected meeting time in the afternoon, the group goes to Travnin Circle, the huge center of Leptami, where a great deal of private business takes place. Koryo and Daala move to meet with the contact while the rest of the group hangs back. They meet up with the presumed NR agent at the Northern curve of the circle and give him a pre-designated password. He tells them that he realizes they are on leave, but that they should leave the system immediately. The Empire was building a... He is then hit by a blaster rifle shot from the South curve of the circle. He crumbles into Dynasty's arms as the crowd in the circle screams and panics. Daala tries to push his way through the crowd to get to the Southern curve. The NR agent is unconcious in Dynasty's arms and is dying.

Meanwhile, Deenis and Sunrider happen to be right underneath the building where the shot was fired and they see the shot race across the circle and hit someone. They hope it isn't one of their comrades. Deenis flips a powerful infrared scope over her eyes and identifies a single gunman on the second level. They proceed up the stiars of the building to intercept the gunman, who is still firing on Dynasty's position. They reach the second level and move to the room with the gunman's window. They see a short grey-skinned creature with a blaster rifle who promptly drops it and leaps toward Arexal. She parries his kicking attack and gives him a severe chop to the shoulder which he completely ignores, only wishing to escape. He does this with phenomenal speed. Estalan uses his rocket pack, jumping out of the window and activating it to slow his descent. The second he reaches the ground he see's the strange alien jump on a nearby speeder bike and proceeds to head to the outskirts of the city, but misses the exact direction he went. Srexa exits the building and tells him where it went, not having seen this. This makes Estalan suspicious, but he proceeds anyway.

By this time, Daala has been able to work his way through the crowd and pursues the escaping gunalien. Estalan also offers pursuit. The duo find it difficult to pilot through the city at such great speeds and almost crash their speeder's, letting the alien get farther ahead. When they finally reach him a few kilometers from the city, he is climbing into a new model Arakyd Helix-class B freighter, which fires on them, forcing them to back off. Daala contacts Speak to track the freighter for them. They head back to the city to find the NR agent dead in Dynasty's arms. The group goes back to the KestrelII to analyze the tracking data Speak compiled. It shows the freighter skimming the planets surface when it finally disappears completely off the sensors about 60 kilometers from the city, due south surrounded by mountains and forest. The group decides that tomorrow they will visit the site to try to determine where the freighter went, assuming it is some sensor-shielded facility.
