In the days of old those wonderfull people from FASA brought us ye olde cyberpunk style game, 'Shadowrun' - I'm sure that you all know exactley what I refer to.
Now, I'm sure that you're all familiar with the adage "Big guns a character do not make" (hey, my most succesfull character was an ex-hitman called Vlad, the only weapons he ever used where a pair of matched silenced Colt Manhunters) but non-the-less: The first and second edition Shadowrun rulebook contained a series of heavy weapons listed as the 'Generic HMG', the 'Generic Assault Cannon', etc. And lo, one of my earlier GM's (who shall for the sake of the GM in question remain nameless) claimed they where all the produce of the well known 'Generic Corporation'... An in-joke in the making. Being a nice guy (I'm sure one of my friends will back that up, if not: what the hell) I tried (in vain) to explain that 'Generic' meant an 'Assault Cannon as might be picked up from any of the well known military arms merchants' (Okay, I probabley didn't say exactley that - it was a few years ago, and even so...) - I even lost karma over arguing about this!
A legend is born, Generic Corporation (building your future?), so when FASA brought out the third edition rules I was naturally kind of miffed at the loss of the Generic weapons which where replaced by similar weapons mostly made by Ares (a takeover perhaps).
And so it is with these thoughts that I present here a listing of the Shadowrun weapons and other 'Generic' products I have seen.
- Generic Cat Food
- As seen in a Garfield cartoon strip, the cat won't like it but then they always where fussy bastards. Costs 5 nuyen.
- Large Generic box
- Sorta boxy and not very large (12" x 6" x 3"), sold to companies like Games Workshop, made of thin card. Costs: 75 nuyen.
- Generic Assault Cannon
- An old favorite, break out the 20mm shells - perfect for your tank-hunting and demolition needs. The Generic Assault Cannon will even accept a standard belt feed!

- Generic Arrows
- Another cartoon this one - they're crap. Costs: 2 nuyen for five. Rules: Treat every shot as a fumble.
- Generic HMG
- The machine gun for the professional, a .5 caliber crowd-killer - belt feed it for added mayhem. Easily mountable on tripods and vehicle pintle mounts.
