Thirteen O'Clock

Thirteen O'Clock

Okay, who still hasn't seen this movie? What's wrong with you? You *have* to see this movie! The video tape is supposedly out of print, but the laser disk is still available in some places. The soundtrack is also a must have item if you're like me, but you decide.

The first time I saw this movie, I was seven years old. It has been my favorite movie since then. Anyone who loves fantasy should love this movie. David Bowie portrays Jareth, the Goblin King, like no one else could even attempt.

For those who do not know the story, I will provide a brief and very vague synopsis.

The story begins with Sarah(Jennifer Connelly) complaining about having to look after her little brother, Toby. Her father and step-mother have gone out for the evening, and Sarah is home with the baby. Sarah has been reading a book called Labyrinth; so, when Tobi aggravates her too much she utters the words that take her into another world: "I wish the goblins would come and take you away........right now." Toby is promtly taken by the goblins, and Sarah is left in the presence of the Goblin King, Jareth (David Bowie). He gives her thirteen hours in which to solve the Labyrinth before her brother is turned into a goblin. Sarah quickly begins her task encountering Jareth many times along the way. Somehow, in the middle of their battle, Jareth falls in love with Sarah. However, he continues to place obstacles in her path. In the Labyrinth, Sarah makes many friends who aid her in her quest much to Jareth's chagrin. Of course, at the castle Sarah decides to face Jareth alone. The ending.....well, that shall remain a mystery until the movie is seen.

"How you turn my world you precious thing,
You starve and near exhaust me,
Everything I've done I've done for you" -"Within You" by David Bowie
