Religion is a potent force in Freehold. After all, one of the gods was present at the time of the city's independence. Most of the religions are represented in the Temple District. However, for a mix of reasons, many of the faiths operate elsewhere, and some of those in the Temple District maintain secondary shrines at appropriate locations. Vegfiro has a small shrine in the Bazaar, in addition to the larger temple, on the spot where Vegfiro himself spoke to the marauding mobs. It is said that if a truly repentant person prays long enough at the shrine, they will be shown how to atone for their misdeeds. (1% non-cumulative chance per day of prayer of receiving an Atonement spell, raised to 5% if a suitable offering is made). In the military barracks of the North Quarter is a mid-sized shrine dedicated to Awr. It is actually larger than the one located in the Temple District, and is heavily patronized by militiamen preparing to be sent to the Thunderwall Gate, where the Iceschan army occasionally strikes. Tufrone's followers have decided to forgo the Temple District entirely. The Kobold's Temple is located in the Market District, where the priests claim the sound of ringing coins is sweeter than that of church bells. Sile has a shrine, located in the Guildhouse of the League of Shadows, somewhere in the North Quarter. League members are required to tithe a small portion of their earnings to the shrine. The shrine is as illegal as the League, and the authorities would dearly love to know the location of either. There is no known nor rumored place of worship dedicated to Drovelor. The Tyrant God may very well have spies among the orcish dock workers, stable hands and house servants, however. Tronet may have as many as a dozen small shrines scattered across the city. On one occasion, a Scourge was found trying to poison the harbor, and raids have turned up at least one shrine in the High Quarter. It is commonly rumored that Setmurin has an underground temple somewhere in the Necropolis' catacombs, but none has ever been found. While the worship of Setmurin is not strictly banned, it would be against the law to build anything more than a "household shrine" to appease the Death Deity. Small shrines dedicated to various Race Totems, especially those of the Elves, Dwarves and Goblins, are scattered around the city in the neighborhoods where a high concentration of the flock is present. Gnomes and Kobolds each have about three shrines, and a secret shrine dedicated to the Drowqueen is rumored to exist somewhere in the North Quarter.
