The Outlaw Priest
The Laws of Faith over the Laws of Man
Description
The Outlaw Priest has chosen to serve a community of outlaws,
bandits, rebels or pirates, acting as the spritual guide for the
group.
Note that this refers to secular (worldly) criminals--heretics
are served by Dissident Priests.
Barred/Preferred Faiths
Outlaw Priests are never Lawful. Even in regions where their
own faith is proscribed, the Priest is still unlikely to think
of himself as an "Outlaw".
Militant Chaotic Faiths are the most appropriate to the role
of Outlaw, although more Neutral or pacifistic faiths might also
take the "shepherd" role.
Role
The Outlaw Priest serves one of two roles. If the group's
behavior is actually in accordance with the precepts of the
Diety, then the Priest acts as a guide, or even a leader.
Priests of Tevlor, the Elven Diety of Rebellion, often serve in
this role.
If the Diety is merely unconcerned with the group's
activities, then the Priest simply treats the band as any other
flock, although Good Priests, in particular, often strive to
ensure the group does not cross certain lines in their actions.
A Priest of Ruffalonna who spends her time healing and tending
for a band of street urchins who frequently cut purses, but
keeps them from graduating to cutting throats, would be a good
example.
Again, it is important to stress that if the group is actually
engaged in activity that the Church would regard as sinful, then
the Priest is probably more of a Dissident than an Outlaw.
Of course, it is possible to be both. If a Priest of, say,
Trocept were convinced that the time had come for a more
aggressive approach for ousting an unfit ruler, he could walk
the borderline between being an extremist Dissident and an
Outlaw, as he joins up with a band of rebels.

Equipment
There are no special modifications to equipment, although
heavy metal armor would just be asking for trouble.
Benefits
There are no real special benefits to being an Outlaw Priest,
save one; The outlaw or pirate band being served by the Priest
will tend to be _very_ protective of her, so long as she does
not abuse her status.
They will go to much greater lengths than normal to rescue
"their" Priest than they would for a normal member of the group.
Drawbacks
Obviously, being hunted by the authorities is the chief
drawback, here. While they probably won't know his identity to
begin with, they will be hunting for the group he shepherds.
Depending on the region this all occurs in, that could mean that
he, too will be considered a criminal, for not turning his flock
in.
Depending on the exact status of his faith in the society in
question, the church heirarchy may or may not have enough clout
to get his sentence mitigated--although he will frequently face
banishment, with imprisonment if he returns.
Wealth
The Outlaw Priest starts out with the normal wealth.
Race
No special bars on race for this kit, although Lawful races
(Kobolds, Goblins and Dwarves) will be less likely, for obvious
reasons.
