VF-1 Valkyrie Family
The quintessential mecha of the First ROBOTECH War, the VF-1 Valkyrie is still considered to be one of the best mecha designs ever produced, either by the RDF, or anyone else. What are the reasons for this veritech mecha's success?
It can be argued that there is no one single area in which the VF series excels, but rather it is the fact that the mecha is so well balanced that is reason for it's success. Indeed, even Major General Rick Hunter and Commander's Maximillian and Miriya Sterling of the famed Skull Squadron still have VF-1S Super Strike Valkyries fully armed and ready for action.

Atmospheric Speed:
- Fighter: Stall speed 200 MPH. Mach 2.5 under 60,000 feet, Mach 4 above 60,000 feet to an alititude ceiling of 60 miles. The Super and Strike variants are limited to Mach 1 in any atmosphere due to the nature of the dorsal FAST back design. The VF-1X variant mach 3.05+ at 30,000 feet or less, Mach 4.28+ up to 130,000 feet (42,000 m). Service ceiling of 42,000 m w/o booster assistance.
- Guardian: Dead hover to Mach 1 (670 MPH at SL), with an altitude ceiling of 10,000 feet.
- Battloid: Running 60 MPH. Note that this is on flat open terrain, running speed is significantly reduced based on environmental conditions. Leap 10 m high and 15 m long using boosters. Armor applique decreases maximum running speed to 40 MPH under optimal conditions, but does not affect leaping distances. VF-1X is capable of reaching 100 MPH under optimal conditions. The VF-1X increased thrust and lower overall weight allows it to fly at up to 300 MPH in Battloid mode (Earth standard gravity and atmosphere).
