The Gladiator MK I Destroid

The Gladiator MK I Destroid was never designed to be a front line combat mecha. It's original design specification called for a engineering mecha capable of construction/engineering projects in a combat zone with the requisite armor and speed to maintain a close proximity to the front line mecha forces.

When seen in this light the Gladiator can only be considered a smashing success. It is only when the Gladiator began to be used as a frontline combat unit did the flaws inherent in the design began to become appearent. The lack of long range weapons systems, thin armor and reduced sensor capability were the bane of this mecha. When the PI (Product Improved) modification was approved, to improve sensors and weapons fit, this mecha was once again able to become a useful part of the combined arms mecha team.
