The UN RDF

UN Rapid Deployment Forces MOS list

UN RDF Electrical Engineers

The face of future war requires soldiers trained in the art of digital warfare. These soldiers come in two basic types. The first is the true engineer: modifying, fixing, and creating new electronic equipment for the troops on the ground. They are generally deployed in a rear area and kept safe for it is their expertise that keeps the war machine tuned in, turned on and running.
The next type of electrical engineer is the cyber warrior. These are soldiers who specialize in the art of combat hacking. They are generally teamed up with a commo/intel specialist. they rarely deploy to a combat zone, but if the system in isolated and there is no way to hack in, they may be teamed with a military specialist team to provide security for the Electrical Engineer while they hack in on site.

UN RDF Mechanical Engineer

Before the battle begins, it is the "crew cheifs" that make sure the mecha work. These are the men who make the mecha. If not for these highly technical and dedicated soldiers, the RDF would not even exist.
The technical training given to these soldiers is first rate and there is a huge demand for their skills in the civilian market. It would seem that the UN may have to increase the base pay of these specialists, because the manpower of this OCC is almost always too low, due to combat losses and soldiers that get out of the RDF to make up to 5 times as much in the civilian sector.

Attribute requirements: INT 2

OCC skills: cost=5

Basic Issue:

Pay scale: UN standard military pay scale.
Personal savings: 6D6x100 US dollars

Medical and Technology Specialist OCC

The Medical and Technology specialist OCC was created to address two specific needs. This need was to have combat medic for forward deployed combat units, but also to have specialized medical and technical knowledge available to units engaged in recon, surveillance and exploration missions. Instead of creating 2 OCC slots along with the attendent personnel problems, the UN RDF HQ decided to combine the two need into one, hence the "MedTechSpecs" as they are known throughout the RDF.
These are some of the most well rounded and confident soldiers in the RDF as the nature of their job is such that they often reassigned at a frightening rate. There are no typical assignments for this OCC. They are needed in combat zones, exploration missions, peacekeeping operations, hospitals, spaceships, anywhere and everywhere the skills of medicine or basic science is required.
The manpower of this OCC is so low and the danger so high that the mortality rate (deaths to manpower available) is actually higher than that of either the Destroid or Veritech pilots and equal to the underarmed, undermanned and overused Military Specialists. Incredibly, the MedTechSpecs wear this fact like a badge of honor. It is this pride in that fact that has led to the unofficial motto "to die young so others may grow old".

Attribute requirements: INT 3. A high WITS and WP is also very helpful.

OCC skills: cost=5

Pay scale: Standard UN pay scale
Personal savings: 4D6x100 US dollars

UN RDF Military Specialist OCC

When Operation STARSTRIKE was implemented, it was quickly discovered that there was not very much need for traditional infantry and special operations soldiers. The only possible use of non mechanized soldiers was for boarding actions. The decision was made to include some non mechanized combat troops in case such an event occured requiring the use of such troops.

The infantry, marine and spec ops troops were looked upon with disdain by the mechanized troops and pilots. It soon became quickly appearent that the old tactics of large scale infantry tactics were horribly inappropiate to mech warfare, and it seemed that traditional spec ops missions such as deep recon, sniping, and hostage rescue were also becoming extinct.

And so it remains, the UN RDF has a distinct distaste for the Military Specialist OCC, generally regarding them as unneccessary and unwanted. It is only by the good graces of the "Old School" military leaders that this OCC exists at all. The Military Specialists have generally been reduced to the level of security guards on almost all RDF postings.

This does not deter these dedicated warriors. In fact, it has served to bring them closer together, giving them a strange sort of "espirit de corps" that, to outsiders, borders on nihilism. The UN RDF High Command is reluctant to give any missions to the Military Specialists, because they simply don't understand how a four to six man team can do what 4 VF-1 Valkyries can't.

Attribute requirements: INT 2, REF 2

OCC skills: cost=5

Basic Issue:

Pay scale: standard UN pay scale according to rank. Additional $200/month if possess parachuting at 1, or $400/month if parachuting is 2 or higher. Additional $200/month if possess SCUBA as a skill.
Personal savings: 4D6x100 US dollars

Veritech Pilot OCC

Probably the most well known OCC in the RDF is the Veritech Pilot. This is a specially selected and highly trained officer who pilots the UN RDF's fastest, most versatile war machines, the Veritech Fighters.
These pilots are some of the best in the world, selected out of the cream of the crop of member nations militaries, mercenary organizations and service academies. Some make the claim that they are nothing more than spoiled brats and that the machines are capable of turning anyone into an ace. These claims are never said in public though.

Attribute requirements are an INT of 2, and a REF of 2.

OCC Skills: cost=6

Basic Issue:

Pay Scale: as per UN standard but with additional $350 US dollars for flight status.
Personal Savings:4D6x100 US dollars

RDF Destroid Pilot

The Destroid pilot OCC of the UN RDF is considered to be the same as an armored vehicle crewman in other militaries. While lacking the speed and flexibility of the Veritechs, the stealth and sublety of Military Specialists or the glamour of a Spacecraft crew, these soldiers are piloting the hands down winners in destructive capability. One destroid has more straight firepower, range and mobility than any other armored vehicle on earth. The RDF destroids are designed for long duration, heavy combat. The variety of Destroids and the weapons systems power each possesses is staggering.

As a prerequisite, Destroid pilots must have a minimum IQ of 2

OCC skills: cost=10 points

Basic Issue:

Pay scale: standard UN military pay as per rank.
Personal Savings: 4D6x10 US dollars.

RDF Communications Specialists

On the modern battlefield, nothing is as important as communications. These soldiers, while not generally deployed on the front lines are more important than the units that they support. It is their technological knowledge which makes modern war possible, for without it, the RDF would be deaf dumb and blind.
There are many different "flavors" of communications specialists. Some are concerned with straight communications between units and HQ. Others are more specialized, with skills in areas as varied as crypto-analysis, communications jamming, signals intercept, photo-reconnaissance and Electronic Intelligence.
They may also be forward deployed with scout units, a Tactical Operations Center or on a ship-of-the-line.

Attribute requirement of INT 2 or greater.

OCC skills: cost=6

Basic Issue:

Pay scale: as per UN RDF standard for rank.

personal savings: 4D6x100 US dollars
