TOG Forces

The TOG has an immense military strength that stretches across the Milky Way galaxy and by some accounts extends into the Andromeda and Magellenic galaxies as well. Their military is broken into three autonomous forces, which is an anomoly. These forces are the biogenetically engineered Zentraedi, the non-enhanced Imperial Guard, and the genetic and cybernetic supermen known as the Legions Astartes.
Command and Control Structures-These three seperate branches of their military all fall under the control of the Robotech Masters, the leaders of the Tirolian Empire. There are three sets of three RM's at any one time. The first of these triumvirates deals with "domestic" policy, the second "foreign" policy and the third deals with "military" policy. The Imperial Guard's recruitment and training is handled by the domestic triumvirate, and once completed, control is transferred to the foreign triumvirate.
The Zentraedi is controlled solely by the military triumvirate. The Legions Astartes is not controlled by any triumvirate. According to Commanders Breetai and Exedore, the Legions Astartes are controlled by "visions" sent from the Eternal Emperor (which is currently believed to be in stasis on Haydon VI).

The Zentraedi-These genetically engineered warriors have a culture that revolves around the concept of warfare. The philosophical aspects are dealt with in detail in TM 100-54 Intelligence Reports on Threat Societies, and thus will not be repeated here. Zentraedi ships are designed with massive firepower and the majority of it is concetrated on the forward lower half of the hull in order to project the firepower to the forward arc and the lower arc.
This is indicative of their tactics.
The Zentraedi see space warfare as the necessary first step in planetary occupation. The is the primary purpose of Zentraedi warships. They are not designed to fight ship to ship battles in interstellar space, as their weapons fit indicates. The primary weapons systems is the Heavy Particle Beam which is used to destroy planetary sheilds, and other large "hard" targets. The secondary weapon system on all Zentraedi ships is the missile battery.
These missiles are typically armed with nuclear warheads (tactical use) or anti-matter warheads (orbital bombardment or anti-ship) with an average range of 2 million km. These missile systems are all fire and forget, reflex weapons systems. This shows a willingness to target an enemy system with multiple fires in order to guarantee destruction, as opposed to a more frugal approach to weapons management.
The tertiary weapons systems is a network of manned laser turrets for "detail work" (direct translation of Zentraedi), possibly meaning anti missile, anti fighter defense, but this seems unlikely as the damage potential for these weapons systems is entirely too large for such small targets. It is far mor likely that these laser turrets are used for the targeting and destruction of specific targets at long range.
Once the Zentraedi have occupied the space around a planet, they quickly begin to conduct drop operations. It is now confirmed that the Zentraedi Landing Ship is capable of dispensing 6000 troops per minute, which at an altitude of 65 miles, means a total flight time of under 7 minutes. Under even adverse conditions a Landing Ship can completely unload it's maximum compliment of 300,000 full size warriors in under 1 hour, from orbit.
Once a Zentraedi ship has finished unloading it's crew of warriors, it immediately takes up station for use as a orbital fire support station and retrieval craft. It is Zentraedi doctrine for any warrior to call for orbital fires under their own discretion, unlike any other military studied thus far. Fire Support is one of the tenent of Zentraedi doctrine. They see no reason to limit casualties so the complete destruction of a city is not only acceptable but encouraged, as the flood of refugees is only a hinderance to the defending military, concerned as it is about saving civilians as well as defending territory. This flood of civilians is in no way a hinderance to the Zentraedi as doctine states that civilians on the battlefield "not having a detrimental effect on the enemy are a detriment to the Imperative. Destroy them, but be sure to use only energy weapons and not missiles or guns, as that would then be wasteful. Their deaths should brought about as cheaply and expediently possible. If feasible, try to crush them underfoot, so as to incur no logistic cost to their death. That is the ultimate efficiency."
As one can see, the Zentraedi, while making a distiction between combatants and non-combatants, use that difference only for their own benefit. This is also mirrored in the fact that Zentraedi have no CASEVAC (casualty evacuation) capabilities. This is for the simple reason that a wound savage enough to seriously impair a Zentraedi, is usually deadly. The Zentraedi ability to heal quickly ensures that 80% of all battlefield injuries are either non-threatening, or healing during the battle.
The Zentraedi are also not adverse to using chemical or biological weapons in pursuit of their goals. Tailored plagues and nerve agents are a standard armament of Zentraedi warships. Genocide, while not encouraged, is not frowned upon either.
Common Zentraedi ground combat tactics run the gamut from baited ambushes to commando style raids, to artillery bombardment. The training of every Zentraedi ground troop includes everything that is usually included in the training of a human special operations soldier. That is only the beginning, as every Zentraedi is also trained in the usage of all models of the ubiquitous battlepod.
The typical Zentraedi soldier, has on average 7 years of combat experience, while the average Strike Leader (equivalent to a RDF Lieutenant) has an average of 10 to fifteen years of combat experience. Add the fact that all Zentraedi have the same core of training, phenomenal physical abilities, and the Imperative, the Zentraedi may still be the greatest foes Humanity has ever faced. The Zentraedi also have none of the weaknesses that one would expect of a rigid military structure. Rank, while held as sacred, is not a defense for failure. Nor is insubordination punishable, if the offense led to victory.
Surviving defeat is not tolerated, as it is seen as cowardice. Self-sacrifice for the common good is common even among senior leadership. The one noticeable flaw in the Zentraedi war machine, which is common in many space faring races is the inability to wage a war on a water planet where the depth of the oceans reach a depth of 1.5 miles or greater.

The Imperial Guard-Is the single largest military in known space. The exact numbers are not known. Guesses range from as little as five billion to the almost ludicrous 2 trillion, the exact numbers are known only to the Robotech Masters. The Imperial Guard is also the most fractured military in known space as well.
The Guard is controlled by the Robotech Masters who then delgate orders to the "Field Marshals" and "Sky Marshals". The "Field Marshals" are responsible for planetary operations and "Sky Marshals" are responsible for space operations. Each pair of "Marshals" is teamed with a "Governer" which form a triumvirate of their own.
A triumvirate of this type is usually accountable for all actions taken within an area that encompasses approximately 50 habitable worlds, regardless of the actual volume of space this might be. These triumvirates are in charge of the planetary triumvirates, of which there are two on each planet.
The first of these these triumvirates is composed of a Governor, a Economics Minister and a Minister of Justice. They are in charge of the day to day running of the planet. (Etymological note: the Tirolian word for inhabited planet is "skaltch", which when translated means "hive" in English, hence the term "Hive World" commonly used by loyalist Zentraedi to refer to any planet currenly inhabited. This has caused many fights between humans and Loyalist Zentraedi when they would refer to Earth as a "Hive World", which caused tempers to flare while Earth was indeed occupied by the Invid Hive Mind.) The second triumvirate is composed of a "General", an "Admiral", and a "Minister of Loyalty" (commonly translated as "Kommisar").
The organization of the peacetime governmental system is covered in TM 100-54 Intelligence Reports on Threat Societies, and so shall not be repeated here. The military command structure is responsible for all aspects of their respective span of control, including manufacture of weapons in their system, recruitment and training of soldiers, and defense of their planet.
It is also worth noting that in the event of hostilities requiring the mobilization of planetary units, the planet's forces are split in half forming a "Defense" division which then falls under the control of the peacetime triumvirate, while the "Expeditionary" division is deployed along with the war triumvirate to it's wartime posting.
The naming of these units follows a standard convention. The division number comes first and the world name comes second and the unit type comes third. Thus the "9th Necromundian Infantry" is the 9th division of Necromundan Infantry. This is a very effective system for the identification of units.
Having entire units raised from planets independent of one each other has the benfit of instant esprit de corps throughout the unit, as well a common link that runs throughout the unit. The commonality of tactics, equipment, and training is insured by the Imperial Directorate of Training and thus problems arising in using divisions from different planets are rare.
It is also worth noting that certain planets produce "specialty" troops. These divisions are from planets with specific ecosystems, such as the 3rd Tyndalian Infantry. Tyndal is a jungle world, with incredibly dense and inhospitable jungles overrunning the planet. The 3rd is specifically trained to operate in these jungles, and because of this is commonly deployed to any planetary conflict where jungle ecosystems predominate. This phenomena occurs for all climatic conditions including hard vaccum due to some worlds having no atmosphere to speak of.
It is also known that each division may or may not have a special unit of combat psionicists, depending on their prevalence on the world the unit was raised from. Some units have special units of "Ab-Humans" (mutants) or they may be sprinkled throughout the divisions, also depending upon their prevalence on the raising world.

The Legions Astartes is a military unit that has no analogue in our, or any other Order of Battle found in known space thus far. These units, called "Chapters" are equivalent in size to a Brigade (roughly 4 to 5,000 personnel) and have organic aerospace assets including ships up to Light Cruiser classification.
These Chapters are unique in that are created only by the Emperor (or the Robotech Masters in his stead, which is to say the last 10,000 years) in what is known as the "Rite of Founding". This Rite is essentially a dicatate that they only follow orders originating from the Masters or the Emperor. When not under orders, they have free reign to operate in the best interests of the Empire.
The recruitment, training, and operation of these Chapters is solely the perview of the Commander, referred to as a "Primarch". Primarchs are essentially immortal super soldiers with centuries, if not millenia of combat experience. Soldiers are recruited into a Chapter only after first serving a tour in the Imperial Guard. If the soldier wishes, he may apply to any Chapter he or she wishes. If found worthy, the Chapter then summons the soldier for selection. After that, the Guardsman is never heard from again. The current acceptence rate is beleived to be around 1%. What becomes of the other 99% is not known.
If a soldier is accepted, they are given extensive genetic and cybernetic modifications which boost their combat capabilities to incredible levels.
Chapters have no preferred tactics, as each one seems to have a different preference. The Blood Angels are masters of CQB and planetary raids, while the Dark Angels prefer planetary invasions. All Chapters have the following things in common however. They never take prisoners, at least none are ever returned. Chapters are not afraid to use teleportation technology or psionics to acheive the edge in a battle. There is no concern given for casualties taken, nor bodycount acheived, the only concern is the fulfillment of their objective. There are instances of Chapters exterminating entire planets using nerve gas and atomics to ensure victory. Combatting a Chapter is incredibly difficult and defeating them is next to impossible.
All Chapters have are equipped similarly, even while the actual organization is up to the Chapter's Primarch. The Legions troops are broken down into serveral units such as Terminator Squads, Tactical Squads, Recon Squads, Mechanized Assault Teams, etc.
Another interesting note is that Legions, even while working with Zentraedi or Guard units may or may not communicate with these other units. It is known that on serveral occasions Primarchs have taken control of Guard units and forcing the commanding triumvirates into a support role for the Chapter. It is not known whether this would ever occur between Chapters and Zentraedi units, although it would most likely result in conflict.
Chapters are also heavily influenced by the Imperial Cult, going beyond even fanaticism in acheiving their military goals. It is also known that Legions incorporate Combat Psionicists in their units.

Miscellaneous Units also abound in the TOG military. There are special units of Psionic Intelligence troops referred to as "Librarians". They may either work as individuals seconded to specific units for one time operations or as cohesive units unto themselves. There also exists the "Officio Assassinorum", which is where the TOG places their best assassins. These assassins are often used in combat operations to support "line" combat operations, and are very deadly.
Each of these special units are under the control of the "Field Marshal" and may be sent out only on their command. These units ARE NOT organic to the Marshal's command, they are given to him by the Robotech Masters, usually after a formal request.
There are also a myriad of para-military units that may be encountered by REF/Sentinel Personnel such as Overlords, Adeptus Mechanicus, Inquisitors, Investigators, and Free or Rogue Traders. Their exact functions in the Imperium is at this time unknown. If their presense is detected, immediately contact REF Intelligence.
