Brasov

Brasov is a very old city, dating back to about 1200 AD when German settlers (Sasi) colonised the area. The city has a Hungarian and a German name, both of which I can't remember.

Me and Luke went there, and met up with a girl called Ana. Luke met in my dads club in Bucharest several days before. She invited us to meet her friends and to go out. Little did we know that her friends knew one of our friends called Tom Wells that visited Romania several years before. Complete coincidence! After we went out we went to their house for a party and stayed the night. The next day we went and got private accomodation.

Brasov is strategically placed within a valley. It used to be completly surrounded by walls and had towers. Some of the 15th century towers and sections of wall still survive to this day. They are being restored. The city became a major defence in the 15th century for the Hasburgs and later the Austro-Hungarians as it sucessfully protected the area from the Ottoman Empire. You're by now probably why is it in Romania now? Perhaps you should read the info on Romania if you want to know!

There is a low but steep mountain right next to Brasov called the Tampa. Some of the pics are from up there.

The Black Church was built in the 12th century. It is called that because when the Austro-Hungarians retreated from Transylvania some time ago, they tried to burn the chrurch down, thus staining the masonary black. It only burned the roof and the furniture which was replaced shortly after, the structural integrity was never compromised.
