The Black Sea Seaside

The Black Sea, not to be confused with the Dead Sea, or the Red Sea, is an actual sea. It is connected to the Mediterranean Sea via the straight of Bosphorus where Istambul (Constantinopole) is, just a few hundred kilometers south, so there is access to the oceans. I've written more details on the Black Sea on the Tourist Information Terminal page. If you like facts and figures check it out.

Actually, I went to the seaside (Romanian Rivera) twice. Once with Luke, Mom and Andra, and the latter with Mom, Andra and her mom, Marioara (my aunty). Marioara is my mom's brothers wife, so her sister-in-law.

Both times we stayed in a city very far south called Mangalia, at a very old and good friend of my mom called Gaby. Gaby is married and has two kids, Stefan and Oana (which I like hehe). Gaby and her husband own a contruction material firm, has 4 warehouses and a number of trucks, lorries and vans. Oh yes, she also has a loudicrous number of dogs and cats that she rescued or adopted and keeps around her home, and various warehouses. She really likes animals.

The first time we went, we visited The Saturn, Jupiter, Venus and Olimp resorts. We also went to see the circuss in Jupiter. Olimp being the best of those, more upmarket, better facilities, bars, restaurants, etc. The bars and restaurants we went to were great. Imported alchocol is expensive (still less than in England hehe), but the Romanian stuff is dirt cheap, such as 25p per pint of Ursus beer, very good beer. Vodka and Tuica are very cheap too. Tuica is similar ro plum brandy, and the stuff is absolutely lethal. Especially the home made stuff, which most of it is.

The second time we went we visited mainly Neptune and Mangalia itself. Neptune is my favorite as the sand is very clean, and fine even underwater whereas in Neptune it's rocky underwater and I don't like that.

The last evening we went to a very upmarket resort quite far north called Mamaia. It boasts many 5 star hotels, a 12km long beach, a cablecar system to get you from one end of the beach to the other, a water theme park, numberous restaurants, bars, and night clubs everywhere. There is the sea on one side, and fresh water lakes on the other. Quite cool.

Remember to hover the mouse cursor over the photo for a description.
On the way to the seaside.
Bridge over the first of the Danube arms. At this crossing it is split in two.
Bridge over the second of the Danube arms.
The locks for the Danube to Black Sea Canal. The Danube gets quite close to the sea, but then turns away, and eventually pours into the Black Sea at the Danube Delta about 200km further, so they created this canal as a shortcut.
Olimp beach.
Andra in Olimp.
Clouds in Olimp - very rare sight indeed. :-( Besides it was about 5pm anyway.
As you enter the City of Constanta, there is a large fishing boat all lit up pretty, placed by the road as a welcoming sign to motorists.
One of Gaby's big lorries at one of the warehouses. Moneyd!
One of Gaby's cats with new born kittens. Awww...so God damn cute!!
More of Gabys kittens. There's three siblings in total, these are born of the same mother as the new borns.
Rescued kitten at Gaby's office.
They all seem to get on just fine.
More of Gaby's rescued animals.
Luke and more of his new friends.
Stefan and his sister Oana. Son and daughter of Gaby.
Stefan and Vali (Stefan's girlfriend).
One of Stefan's insane friends.
Us at a restaurant. Left to right: My Mom, my cousin Andra and Vali.
Stefan's friend (he's the champion of Romania at some sort of literature contest) and his girlfriend at the same restaurant.
A seaside bar, the one we were in was very similar but with three open levels. This is in Olimp. There are dosens of pubs bars restaurants all along a main road. People show off their fast supercars on it at a very slow speed (lots of traffic) hehe
A Romanian nightclub. So nothing has changed then. Haha joking. =-D

The Hungarian Circuss. The stunts people are Romanian for some reason. Probably ex-gymnasts.
Walking in Neptune forest. The beach divides the freshwater lakes, such as the one on the left, and the Black Sea.
Fisherman fishes in Lake Neptune. Fishing is a big past time in Romania.
Cool tree in Neptune.
The centre of Neptune beach. What you can't see are all the shops on the right, sorry bout that.
Neptune private beach, can hire jetskis and go scuba, etc.
Volleyball court in Neptune. Cheap as chips to rent.
Neptune private beach, £1.50 including chair all day.

More Neptune beach.
Seagulls hovering in search for food on Neptune beach.
Climbing contest in Neptune. The winner of the day (fastest time) gets a crate of Ursus Beer.
A waterslide, 25p a go (€0.70 or €0.85).
By day, bar and waterslide with pool, by night the dancefloor covers the pool and its a night club! It's in Jupiter.jpg
Looking back at the Neptune beach from the Neptune peer.
Olimp seen from Neptune peer, the low white hotels look like luxury cruisers in dock. The tall hotels are being modernised, always a good sign.
Neptune beach after hours.
