If Only

I see him standing there, so close yet so far away. 
My heart calls out to his, begging him not to go, not to leave me again. 
I don’t know how to let him go. 
Every memory we have shared, flashes through my mind. 
Since I came here he has been a part of my life. 
How do I go on without him? 
How do I tell my heart it can’t have him? 
So I stand and I stare, and my heart shatters completely, 
As he turns and walks away from me. 
If only I had denied what I felt for him from the beginning. 
If only we had listened when we said our love could never be.
