Fusion Robot | Level 7 Boss | Level 27 Boss |
Standard PTMC Automated Scout Robot
Size: 3 meters
Est. Armament: 2 MR Pulse Rock Cutters
Threat: Minimal
This is your basic enemy, and in the early levels, their fireballs do nothing more than block your vision. One shot from the quad level-four lasers will take them out. However, in the later levels, when your sheilds drop down to the single-digits, a few shots from one of these guys will kill you.
There are many variants of these guys. The basic yellow variant shoots fireballs and sometimes relinquishes an energy packet when you kill it. In the later levels, there are gray versions of them that plant bombs everywhere. These guys almost always relinquish sheild boosts, but are fast and not easy targets. In level 20, they come in blue, yellow, and red, and will relinquish an access card of their color when you kill them.
Medium PTMC Automated Scout Robot
Size: 4 meters
Est. Armament: 2 Argon Welding Lasers
Threat: Average
These guys are a little harder to kill than their Class 1 cousins, and their slender bodies don't help. If you encounter large groups of them, it may be frustrating to kill them and will take a toll on your weapons, and since they are bad shots, I suggest just flying right past them. They sometimes relinquish a sheild boost when they are killed.
Modified PTMC Maintenance Robot
Size: 5 meters
Est. Armament: 2 Diamond Plated Swingarms
Threat: High
These guys are FAST!!! Stay far away from them when you fire at them, because they have no projectile weapons. Their claws, however, can do a toll on your sheilds if they get close to you. Keep your fire trained on them, and they will slowly back away. They are relatively easy to kill, and sometimes relinquish a sheild boost.
There is also another version that is invisible, and will sneak right up on you and start scratching you to death. They usually are in pairs, so if you know where one is, I'd fire everywhere until you kill both of them.
Standard PTMC Utility Robot
Size: 4 meters
Est. Armament: 1 Heavy Laser
Threat: Medium
These guys, although they are also lifters, are nothing like the other two lifters. These guys only have one claw, (which doesn't do anything,) and have a rather powerful laser. They usually appear in groups of two or three, and are very annoying. I think that they sometimes relinquish an energy packet.
PTMC Utility Robot
Size: 7 meters
Est. Armament: 4 Tungsten Swingarms
Threat: High
These guys are even faster than their cousins, but much more timid, and definitely less scary-looking. They are rather hard to kill, and usually appear in small groups, but they are not much of a threat if you see them before they're on top of you. They sometimes relinquish a sheild boost.
Modified PTMC Mining Robot
Size: 5 meters
Est. Armament: 2 Heavy Argon Lasers
Threat: Medium
Small Hulks are relatively easy to kill and aren't much of a threat, just a roadblock in your travels. However, groups of them may be dangerous, taking your attention away from larger (more deadly) enemies. They sometimes relinquish a sheild boost.
Modified PTMC Mining Robot
Size: 6-8 meters
Est. Armament: 2 Missile Launchers
Threat: High
Medium Hulks are extremely slow and rather easy to kill, being taken care of by a missile or two and a few laser shots. However, large groups can be very dangerous. Their concussion missles move very slow and are easy to dodge, however. They will almost always relinquish from one to three concussion missiles. There is also an invisible version of these guys.
Modified PTMC Mining Robot
Size: 6-8 meters
Est. Armament: 2 Missile Launchers
Threat: Very High
The dreaded LARGE HULK, possibly the worst normal enemy in all of Descent, is about the same as the Medium Hulk, only armed with homing missiles, which will only miss you if you are cloaked or if you quickly go around a very, very sharp turn. The homing missiles are also much faster than the Medium Hulk's concussion missiles, so you can't outrun them. I have stayed ahead of one for a long time, but I've never outrun one. You'll hear a laser-like sound when one gets a lock on you, and the closer the missile is, the faster the sound pulsates. Also, the word "LOCK" will flash in the corner of your screen. These guys take many missles to kill, or just one smart missile square in the head. As long as you keep firing at them, they won't be able to fire at you. When you finally kill them, you will get a wondrous reward of one to three homing missiles.
Size: 8 meters
Est. Armament: 3 Mass Driver Rifles
Threat: High
These guys are annoying. Extremely annoying. Their only weapon is the same fireballs that the lowly Class 1 Drones use, but they are extremely hard to kill. Although they are very slow, it takes a few missiles and some lasers to kill them, but then they release four little Spider robots that are as annoying as mosquitoes. They are probably the fastest droids in this game, but fortunately also the weakest. They are easier than a Class 1 Drone to destroy, and their lasers have a bigger bark than a bite. It is always better to kill them off, however. If you don't, they might follow you to the end of a level if they don't get trapped behind a door. They don't relinquish anything when you kill them.
PTMC Prototype
Size: 5 meters
Est. Armament: Uranium Mass Drivers
Threat: High
These guys are armed with a Vulcan Cannon, and although your Vulcan Cannon might not be very effective (I only use it as a last resort), these guys are deadly. As soon as they see you, they'll let out a scream and start firing, never missing their target. Fortunately, they'll die with only one missile. The Fusion Cannon works well against them too - numerous times I have killed three at once with the Fusion Cannon without even charging! They sometimes relinquish Vulcan ammo or sometimes even a Vulcan Cannon, I'm not sure about that, though.
I think that there's also an invisible variety of these guys in the later levels, but I'm not sure. I didn't stay around long enough to find out whether the solid air in front of me was firing at me with a Vulcan Cannon or digging at me with 3-meter-long claws.
PTMC Advanced Prototype
Size: 8 meters
Est. Armament: Plasma Cannons
Threat: Very High
PTMC Coordinating Unit
Size: 4 meters
Est. Armament: None
Threat: High
Although their only offense is to bump into you, (something they don't even try,) these guys increase the awareness of other robots around them, and they are also nearly impossible to kill. These guys will relinquish anything from a few sheild boosts to an invincibility packet to a few mega missiles to a few enemies!
Size: 6 meters
Est. Armament: 4 Argon Cannons
Threat: Medium/High
PTMC Analysis Mech
Size: 5 meters
Est. Armament: Varies
Threat: Medium
PTMC Utility Robot
Size: 3 meters
Est. Armament: Varies
Threat: Low/Medium
