The next actor to play the Doctor was Peter Davidson. He played the part from 1982-1984. The fifth incarnation of the Doctor was the briefest and most troubled of all the previous regenerations. At this point the Doctor was 900 years old and only lasted to be about 905. This was probably due to the fact he had problems regenerating. The Doctor's mind had been damaged from the intense stress of his last adventure and needed repair. Onboard the TARDIS was a room called the Zero Room which would enable the Doctor to allow his mind to heal without outside stimuli. Unfortunatly the Master had trapped the Doctor in a gravity whirlpool and the Doctor needed to jetison the Zero Room to give the TARDIS enough power to break free. Consequently, various parts of his personality never quite solidified. He sometimes seemed confused and disoriented. However in this body the Doctor took on the form of a young man who was healthy and athletic. He had a pleasant, boyish face and dressed in a white cricket sweater and tan frock coat. He kept a fresh stalk of celery pinned to his lapel, was fond of cricket, and was an expert in the field of cricket trivia. At the end of this Doctor's life he and his companion Peri visited a planet called Androzani and were bothed poisoned by a plant. The Doctor obtained the antidote but, while carrying, Peri alternative but to regenerate
