The Characters

• Slater - Ex-corporate mercenary, who worked mainly in intelligence. Now makes a living as an independent mercenary working with Redeye. Together they specialize in destroying data. He is angry with technology. Uses it well when necessary, but prefers to abuse it.
• Redeye - Ex-corp merc, like Slater. Redeye has had experimental genetic mods which give him infrared sight and certain physical characteristics like those of a lion. He doesn't think or deal much with technology other than to use it as a tool. Esp. weapons / weaponry.
• Blake - Creator of the SBL's. Computer scientist and philosopher. He considers the infobahn fascinating, a playground for experimentation.
• Lucille Dunns - Blake's long-time friend and ex-student. Does organic design work now. Grid "expert" - technologist. Has a mixed, but generally positive view of technology.
• Krista - Project manager for FORTRESS. Assassinated.
• Boden - DISC agent. Krista and Court's boss. Considers technology a pain in the ass, but it gives him his job.
• Flash - Data Broker and expert hacker. Contact for Slater & Redeye.
• Crash - Flash's partner, body sculpted so that the two are doubles. Crash is more of the muscle of the two.
• DataMiner - The first SBL. Thought by Blake to have been erased. Has been living, hidden, in the Matrix/Web.
• SBL's (Silicon Based Life): Alpha, Beta, and Gamma versions for NW, NE, SW, SE North American regions. Overlord Prime is central control. The Omega Overlord is a secret, last-ditch, destroy-all, juggernaut-assassin, SBL. Alpha-Omega Prime is Blake's own "unbound" SBL.
• "Eliza" - SBL shrink
• Hunter/Gatherer - search program
• Jedda - Descendent of Mbuti pygmy, Ituri Forest, Zaire chieftain. Leader of the tribe of tech-throwbacks who live in Trash Valley in The Great Basin, Wyoming.
• Edgar Dunbar - Has had half his brain ormet'ed to the Grid. President of Holobar Industries, GMB.
• Dirk - Knows Edgar. Has a network map tattoo. (ex-Controller)
• Sampson - Associate of Edgar. Personal bodyguard.
• Johnsloe Court - wetware ("ormet") interface chip boosts his premotor cortex (reflex boost). DISC agent. Works for Boden.
• Jummi - A member of Jedda's tribe (his adopted daughter). Saw S&R escape after shooting down the satellite.
• Galya - Doctor. Treats Redeye.
