Experiencing The Grid is like combining a lucid dream with virtual reality, and throwing in aspects of global computer access (by use of a grid inducer) all achieved through a hallucinogenic drug state. Add to that a background of hard rocking, beat-heavy music at high volume, and you have the tone and feel I'm going for in Avalanche Injection.

In my initial novel planning The Grid started out as a sort of meta-network which extended beyond cyberspace into the metaphysical realm. It was called The Grid because it was meant to lay out absolute points of reference in the substrate of the physical universe, a concept I've used before, and called "base reality". The Grid was to be an extension of cyberspace into four dimensions, but this fourth dimension would be another physical one, rather than time. This idea did not mesh well with the theories of Einstein, however, and so I decided a change was needed.
