The Corellian Corvette, Model CR-90 |
---|
Most famous for being the famed "Rebel Blockade Runner" which carried Princess Leia Organa and the plans to the first Death Star, Corellian Engineering's Corvette is more often seen in the role of a private spacecraft. At 150 meters in length, it is a medium-sized ship suitable for personal use by those with the funds to buy it. With its four escape pods positioned on the ventral side of the midsection, the Corvette can keep its crew and passengers safe in case of emergency. Its standard layout of six double turbolasers (apparently, four on the dorsal side of the midsection, one on the centerline ahead of those, and one opposite that one on the ventral side) provides adequate protection against small-scale attack, and its huge array of eleven sublight engines gives it an appreciable rate of acceleration.Since the Corvette is easily modified and upgraded, it is a ship of choice for over-wealthy pirates desiring a fast, well-armed personal transport; they often outfit it with greater firepower and better engines than the factory layout. Due to this ease of modification, the Corvette also sees action in combat with the Rebellion. Several participated in the famed Battle of Endor, for example.
Inside the Corvette, areas from the bridge at the ship's bow to the main reactor just forward of the engine array are connected by a series of wide, white corridors. These hallways actually look too wide to fit on such a small ship, and they also make too many turns and hold too many soldiers than corridors on a corvette-labeled ship should hold (some sources report a standard crew of 46 and up to 165!), but perhaps that can be attributed to Corellian Engineering's clever design. Whatever the reason, the CR-90 is undoubtedly a good product for those shopping for a mid-size capital ship.
