The Mon Calamari Cruiser (II) |
---|
Aside from the MC-80 model of Mon Calamari Cruiser, Return of the Jedi also featured a second type of Cruiser, one which had wings into which arrays of engines were built. At this time, I have been unable to positively identify either the model number or the "canon" name of this class of vessel. However, all known possibilities do indicate one near-certainty, that this ship is smaller than the MC-80, possibly around 600 meters in length. MicroMachines labels it the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser, and though the miniature is the same size as that of the so-called Rebel Cruiser, the level of detail indicates that the former is smaller. In addition, the LucasArts space combat simulator TIE Fighter features a "Light Calamari Cruiser" sporting wings, which is, as is obvious by the name, smaller than the ordinary Cruiser. Several websites also claim the existence of a small Cruiser called the MC-70 (or other numbers less than 80); however, their credibility may be called into question as similar sites also claim the existence of Super Cruiser models called the MC-90 (or other, even higher numbers), which I find doubtful.Whatever the name, the smaller size suggests that the second Cruiser is to the Victory Star Destroyers as the MC-80 is to the Imperial Star Destroyers: a slightly less powerful, lesser armed opponent. This, of course, is speculation, but it would seem a logical deduction.
